Newcastle United still eighth in elite league

NEWCASTLE UNITED may well have spent the season out of the limelight of the Premier League.

However, despite trips to Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Doncaster and Bristol City, the Mags have not lost too much ground in the Premier League record books.

And the all-time Premier League table still has United listed as a top- eight outfit.

Only Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Spurs and Everton are ahead of them in the pecking order.

United, of course, missed the first ever season of Premier League action back in 1992/93 but didn’t take long to make up for lost time.

And in 616 games they have racked up an impressive 906 points.

Interestingly, that figure is a whopping 558 more than rivals Sunderland, who are down in 21st place.

How to put a positive spin on a story mind you... those 7 clubs are the only ones in the division that have been there every single season.

Eighth? Eighth in history, fourth in fanbase, second in local fanbase [/stevie]

In major trophies since 1970 we're not in the top 50 that's all that counts. When the day comes and we win something, I think it will be more celebrated on Tyneside than VE day in 1945. Can you imagine what it'll be like, I'm not the only one that fantasises about it. People like The Fish cracking a smile, Rob W looking like he's enjoying himself, people standing on car roofs. Keep the faith.

You know what? On the way to work I saw people queueing outside the Iceland at Gateshead waiting for it to open. Does it get any more depressing than that?

There's more chance of Whitley Bay being voted the world's number one tourist destination in the next 20 year sadly.
