Mancini will try to ensure they don't.

Aye. Best squad in the division by some way, the manager is the weak link.

I think City could win the league this year.

Could be right about that.

I'd go with that. Don't mind City tbh, may have an endless pocket to attract the best players but on their day they are good to watch and in the neutral games all I care about is entertainment.

Pavyluchenko and text messages.

GABRIEL Obertan will sign for Newcastle early next week as United look to finally rediscover some momentum in their summer recruitment drive.

The Manchester United winger will undergo a medical tomorrow prior to signing a permanent deal with United, which will move the focus onto bringing in another striker.

And the Sunday Sun understands that striker could be Spurs hitman Roman Pavyluchenko.

“(Obertan) is almost there. He has to come through a medical, which he’ll probably have on Monday now,” United boss Alan Pardew said.

“I’m looking forward to him joining the club and hopefully it all goes smoothly. It’ll be a permanent deal.”

There is nothing imminent on the striker front but Newcastle have added Russian hitman Pavyluchenko to a list of strikers being considered – plus a few Continental names.

The Sunday Sun understands that the club have changed tack in the market from the start of the summer after many of their targets moved elsewhere – with British-based alternatives now coming into play.

The blow of missing out on Mevlut Erdinc has influenced that re-think, and while moves for Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe look unlikely, it is understood they ARE still being discussed.

Meanwhile, Pardew will seek talks with Joey Barton early next week to resolve the issues that have festered since last week’s Twitter row.

“Joey’s situation is where we were on Friday. We’re all taking a deep breath and seeing where we go,” pardew said.

“You want to have your best players and I’m a manager who wants my best players playing for the club.

“Joey needs to buy into what we’re doing – if he doesn’t see that then he’ll probably go.

“But you never know – we’re all taking some time out. We’ll assess it next week.

“Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday me and Joey will have a couple of texts and we’ll take it from there.”

Absolutely no chance on the Pavlyuchenko front. He's 30 in 4 months, and Spurs won't let him go on the cheap considering they splurged 14M on him.

Good player though.

I wouldn't mind us going in for Shane Long as long as the price was right.

He's wank man.

Impressed me nearly every time I saw him last season, and got a decent goal tally as well. Whether he could make the step up and continue that form is another matter.

Apparently a heafty fee of 3 million quid is being thrown around for anyone that wants sturridge.

If that's the case and we dont at least enquire then i shall eat my own face

Almost certainly nonsense.

At the very least that would be a loan fee.

You've failed to provide a source, and he's been playing in all of their pre-season games (ahead of Torres), scoring a few, and both he and his manager have made it clear that he wants to fight for his place at Chelsea this season.

3M plus wages for a loan is a bit rich.. wonder what the price to sell would be based on that? 12-15M?

Probably around 12mil i think.

If we could set up a loan deal for 3mil with a future fee of 9mil would be ideal.

3mil will get us a genuine threat upfront and most importantly goals. The 9mil fee means we would be ahead of evereyone else come the end of the season should he like it up here and does well.
