Linked with Sheikh M'Bengue again.

Admins/Mods - anyway this can be unstickied? As it's the first time I've noticed it, and stickied threads generally tend not to get read.

Sounds like a Glawegian ned's irresistible chat up line. "Hey, dahlin, y'wanna shake ma bengay?"

Oooh, I could NOT sleep last night, such was my excitement at being able to read the 'inside track' and all the knowledge that the paper's are going to impart today. Quick, someone post it, lest I lose some of my pent up enthusiasm.

Or maybe I just think it's all tosh?

We'll give it a shot and see what people think but I agree this thread has been somewhat dormant.

Opinions please!

Not sure what others do but when I log on I just click the "view new posts" button and all the threads with new posts in them pop up whether they are stickied or not.

If anyone isnt doing the above its quite odd, I would have thought.

Bids so far (The ones that seem pretty strong rumours anyway)

Yesterday there were reports in France said Newcastle had agreed a deal with Lille and Johan Cabaye.

It seems to have been an excellent deal by Newcastle who have taken advantage of a buyout clause of €5M, which is about £4.3M for the 25 year-old box to box French International midfielder.

This lad must be a good player since Arsenal were the other club after him.

Reports in France yesterday said that Newcastle had made a second offer of £6M for French U21 International left-back Cheikh M’Bengue of Toulouse, Newcastle made their first bid of £5M in mid April for the player, and we assume that this will only go through only if Jose Enrique decides to leave Newcastle.

And potential good news in the Sunday Sun today, that Newcastle are now confident of making it a double raid on Lille, by also getting a deal completed for Ivory Coast winger Gervinho – one of Newcastle’s top targets.

The local Sunday paper says that Gervinho has a choice between two clubs – with Newcastle one of those sides.

A couple of days ago there were reports that Newcastle had made a second bid for Lorient French International striker Kevin Gameiro. Newcastle made an initial £8M bid a couple of weeks back, but are said to have gone back in with an improved bid of £10M. That’s for a player whose first choice club seems to be Valencia in Spain.

News yesterday that Newcastle had made an initial bid of £5M for former Newcastle winger Charles N’Zogbia. Wigan have turned down that offer, which is less than Newcastle sold him to Wigan for about 30 months ago.

We assume Newcastle will go back with an improved offer for the French International, who was at Newcastle for four and a half years.

On the face of it, if all true, at least they seem prepared to spend. (about £35 mill in bids I think)

Can't say I disagree with this policy of recruiting (err. being linked with) French speaking or French nationals en masse. Last thing we want here is a United Nations where noone understands each other, and obviously when coming to a foreign league the value of other players speaking your language would be significant.

Of course the Ivory Coast's official language is French, so adding to Tiote and Ben Arfa (Plus a couple of French kids Abeid and Moyo) already in our side who speak it there would be a significant French contingent. Le Sulk here we come!

Spanish is so last season obviously.

Kind of funny how despite the FA stipulations to increase the number of British players in the Premier League Ashley's hunt for a bargain is looking at doing just the opposite.

Any links to that?

As of the 2010–11 season, the Premier League introduced new rules mandating that each club must register a maximum 25-man squad of players aged over 21, with the squad list only allowed to be changed in transfer windows or in exceptional circumstances.[105][106] This was to enable the 'home grown' rule to be enacted, whereby the League would also from 2010 require at least 8 of the named 25 man squad to be made up of 'home-grown players', defined as a player who:

irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Welsh Football Association for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)
