MI5 and anti-terrorist police are using newly adapted military helicopters and aircraft to carry out surveillance across the country

The Army Air Corps Gazelles are fitted with equipment thought to be able to pick up telephone calls and conversations on the ground. The Gazelles are normally based at Salisbury Plain.

The Islander BN2T CCmk2 aircraft are based at RAF Northolt in London they are also soon to begin operations of a handful of Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350ER equipped for ISTAR operations

Indeed - but its only in the last few years that they've had specialist aircraft do to do it - which suggests they've stepped things up a lot

Apparently there was a big fight between the RAF and the Army as to who should operate them - the Army offered a lower cost to the Treasury but then had to ask the RAF to train the pilots and they said "f*** off, pay for your own overheads"

well we're buying some ancient "Rivet Join" RC-135's (the old Boeing 707) to replace the old Nimrod R1's - used in Afghanistan a lot

We're fitting new engines - historically this has been a disaster cost wise

We should really build our own stuff.

even more expensive - and as we order so little we pay a fortune to the Military Industrial complex keeping really slow R&D facilities and development stretched out over years

Look at the cost of Aldermaston etc - its the overhead cost that makes it so expensive

I don't care about cost...

That's a repeated theme from you though and makes you seem a bit naive to be fair.

;) Like everybody (Govt's) aren't just printing money.
