donaldstott 0
You know what, the noises coming out about limited budget are well overdue. For years we have been seen as a cash cow for other clubs to milk dry. £8million for Boumsong, £10million for Luque, Owen for £16m, Viana for £8.5m, Carl Cort for £7m, Coloccini for £10m etc etc, it's almost as if the toon come along and an extra couple of million gets added on. At least negotiations around players will start and end at reasonable levels.

Asprilla 96
We have been seen to be eager to pay over the odds though. Never a great business model. * *No, I don't think buying players for a lot of money is wrong Leazes....as long as they're good.

Particularly as we broke the world transfer record signing Shearer. However that was more due to his record at Euro 96 than our reputation as big spenders (which more or less began here, tbh). Not quite sure how Robert at £9.5m was a snip either. Edited April 23, 2010 by luckyluke

I've nothing against spending big on the right player, but it's the wasted millions on dross that has to stop.

I'm pretty confident that spending too much money on players is something we aren't going to be worried about any time soon

I mean every single club in the world that spends the top money [because they want to win the top trophies] spends every penny well and every single player they buy is a roaring success. Its not really surprising that people ie mostly me I know and accept that, keep having to quote the people who brought those players to the club when others continue to have zero appreciation of what those times brought when it really ought to be obvious by now. I won't answer any reply to this. It is really tiresome.

I've never had an issue with our old spending policy. It was the silly contracts. How Dyer every got onto 80k is beyond sense. Regarding the actual topic, Hughton is certainly the man for next season and not sticking by him would be embarrasingly short sighted. If I had to replace him, Roy Hodgson would be prefered choice.
