AgentAxeman 189
Talk here of Best being shifted, along with Hall and Pancrate as mentioned elsewhere. http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastl...61634-26378258/ Hall is another who would like to stay at Newcastle, but Hughton knows he has to be ruthless and it remains to be seen whether Leon Best has done enough to keep his place in the squad. Best has not scored in 13 appearances since signing from Coventry in January. His form has not been good enough to persuade anyone he is capable of making the step up to the Premier League. The Republic of Ireland international cost £1.5m at the start of the year, but Newcastle will accept less than that if a Championship club is willing to take the striker off their hands before the start of next season. I'll respect Hughton even more if he gets rid, nice guy and all from the looks of things but he clearly isn't good enough for the PL. aye, me too. Kitman 2207
I've just been chatting to a real fuckwit in the pub tonight. Who isn't really a football supporter, he's one of those people who sit on the outdside of everything and have an opiniion but not a close view of a club to deliver a knowledgeable one. A bit like all those who are based in places like Canada, Singapore and Timbuctoo etc..........He insisted that all the money spent on the likes of Alan Shearer was "wasted" because we "did nothing" Coming straight after watching Spurs won 1-0 tonight which he kept saying how well Redknapp had done, I said "do you realise we spent 10 years out of 15 where we were competing where those 2 teams were tonight and higher ? His answer ? Keegan quit thought didn't he ? Words fail me. I actually told him to fuck off because he was talking complete shite. Typical, NZ don't even get a mention Anyone who thinks the money spent on Alan Shearer was wasted deserves to be told to fuck off. If he'd said Michael Owen he'd have had more of a case
OTF 7492
Keeping him would be foolish IMO. Way behind Carroll, Lovenkrands and Shola in the pecking order (and even Ranger IMO), plus I reckon next season away we're going to see a lot of Kevin Nolan in behind a lone striker, so he's even less likely to have a run. Going up to the premier league means less games and a less demanding schedule overall and we need to bring in a new leading striker which would render Best completely useless. Sell him off as a loss, because that amount would soon be realised in wages anyway. If he's on say 10k a week that's more than half a mill a season going down the gurgler. Timbuktu correspondant signing off...
Billy Castell 0
The money Blackburn recieved for the Shearer was wasted, not the money you spent. And the guy who wasted it is being lauded and pushed forward as the next England manager. As for Best, he seemed the sort at Coventry who can do a job at a mediocre 1st division club, but would be absolute shit at Premier League level. Get rid to Doncaster or somewhere and sign a freebie or get a loan. Edited May 5, 2010 by Billy Castell

I dont know if this is wide of the mark but I remember Hodgson doing very well when he 1st arrived and got you into 6th and Europe but then had a horrendous injury list the season after - which led to bad results and his dismissal. Billy Castell 0
Yep, but I think Harford sold Shearer, then Hodgson took over after a period of having Tony Parkes as caretaker manager. Hodgson did waste shitloads of cash though, and Martin Dahlin, Nathan Blake and Christian Dailly were not going to propel us into the stratosphere. And the less said about Kevin Davies the better. Kevin Davies WAS awful for your lot. Turned out okay though albeit not top class. I always liked Martin Dahlin. Blake and Dailly were Championship players. ChezGiven 0
I do sympathise with Best, as i dont think his overall performances (when i saw him) were worse than Carroll's early season performances. I could also see what Hughton was thinking when he brought him in. Hughton would impress many if he sold Best and spent money on a quality striker (which we need to do).
