Christmas Tree 4729
The North Yorkshire Show takes place on 20th June at Ottering Hall just outside of Northallerton. Weather permitting should a great day out for all. Christmas Tree 4729
A reminder that this is on Sunday June 19th this year. (Fathers Day) http://www.northyorkshireshow.co.uk/ Here are some pictures from last year to give you a small feel for the show http://www.northyorkshireshow.co.uk/gallery2010.html I really cant recommend this event enough. Its nothing like the shit Northumberland one and once you go, you will probably make this an annual outing.
Gemmill 44996
Any event that attracts the general public en masse gets the big thumbs down from me. Sounds like my idea of hell. I'm sure it's good if you like that sort of thing though.
Toonraider 0
No offence CT but thats my idea of complete HELL It looks very similar to our very own Devon County Show. Fine if you're a farmer or you're into tractors, cowpats and wellies Maybe if you have small children who like to see the animals and go on the rides its something to do but other than that all our 3 day show does is block up the M5 and make us queue for ever as we're normally on the way to some race track somewhere

Christmas Tree 4729
I think the thing about these shows is when you get there, there is so much more to it than farmers and animals. Toonraider, I'm sure being a family of petrol heads you would love the field that is full of classic cars and motorbikes. Same possible for the magnificent display of steam vehicles. Who can't get excited about marquees full of farmers Market produce and home made cakes of yester year. Kids get to have a go at things they probably wouldn't do normally such as archery or feeding lambs. Then there's motorcycle stunt displays, border collie fantastic tricks display and even mad stuntmen on horseback. Add into that several real ale tents and hog sarnies. And that's just off the top of my head. A marvellous day out.

Christmas Tree 4729
Difficult to know whether CT is being serious most of the time. I know a few on here ( think Pud wad one) went to the Northumberland show last year which is a really shit show, more like a travelling fayre than a country show. They obviously liked the thought of a proper country show, hence why I was reminding folk this one is on and how good it really is. The ultimate one is the Yorkshire show at Harrogate but that's over 3 days and I think was something daft like 20 or 30 quid to get in. I would have thought there would have been quite a few on here that would fancy a really nice different day out on a June Sunday, particularly those with kids. We have a 3 day steam rally here in Torbay every year and he goes to that, but not my thing at all. I would be bored stiff. I know what you're saying though, I'm sure lots of familes would enjoy it. We used to go to lots of car shows too, like the massive NEC Autosport show which is more our type of thing...we even showed our race cars there before. But even that has got very commercial. I do enjoy a look round a proper farm shop mind. We have a picturesque place here in Torquay called Cockington. They have a summer fayre which I avoid (tacky and too busy) but on quiet days of the week I enjoy lunch at Cockington Court and then wander around to watch the glass blowers and Blacksmiths at work, I love the art and jewellery sellers, all local artists. Then we sit on the green with an ice-cream and watch the cricket in peace (Not that I actually like cricket, but Im just setting the scene for you)! No disrespect to families with little ones, but we've done that and now prefer peaceful places!! (Apart from our racing of course)!
