Laptop Advice

When I get back from travelling I am looking to get myself a new laptop to take with me to Uni. I'm looking for something that will last, and has good enough specs to run a few games well enough. The highest spec game I have is probably the Sims 3, so if it can run that smoothly then I'm sure it won't struggle with something like Football Manager.

Don't want to spend TOO much, but will spend a little more if I am buying something with genuine quality. Have heard bad things about Vaio's, and don't particularly like the look of these colourful Dell ones. I've only ever had HP laptops, and have had lots and lots of problems with them which means that I don't particularly want another one.

You're wasting your time asking these spastics. I have a thread gathering dust in the "Help" forum with one response from 10 days ago or so.

My advice is to get something like What Laptop or Computer Shopper magazine and check out their Best Buys in your price range.

I bought a laptop a couple of months ago from ebuyer and I'm very happy with it. I got an Acer 5732z which is £380 including vat. I haven't played anything like the Sims on it but everything else I've tried it seems to handle well.

Just had a look at your thread as well, Gemmill. How close is that laptop to what you're wanting? Most of the requirements seem quite close if not spot on.

Edit: For an extra £50 you can get a better model. It's only DDR2 as opposed to 3, but it's good for the price I reckon. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/184068

I ended up going with a Dell Studio 15 i7.

I say that but the credit card company queried the payment when I tried to buy it (apparently Dell is a prime sit for fraudulent transactions). I told them it was fine so they told me to ring Dell to get them to reprocess the payment.

A week later and I've been on to them nearly every day and can I fuck get them to try to take payment again. Every day i get told it'll be done within the next 24 hrs and every day fuck all happens. I can't even cancel and redo the order cos one of the upgrades I wanted is no longer available. Doing my fucking head in!

Are ACER a decent company when it comes to Laptops then? I mean, you seem to hear a lot about laptops from the likes of Sony, Dell, HP e.t.c, but I haven't really heard much about the quality of ACER laptops. The prices of them look very affordable, though, especially for the sort of Specs you get.
