Asprilla 96
Only happy when you're miserable you lot. FUCK YOU ALL! I enjoyed winning some games this season, we've got rid of chopper boy and most of his ilk and we have a manager who might just be able to stabilise us. Robson needed a couple of seasons to get it right let's not forget.
ewerk 31202
The typical delusion of the average geordie. Why the fuck can you not understand newcastle will not be sold in the near future, no rich arab is going to come in and throw the manager £100mil. MattM4 0
Nowt to celebrate tbh. Fuck that, sure we're "only correcting a wrong" but still it's been good to see the team play well at times, score goals and win games.

Ash will spunk the cash like a well endowed Black man on porn hub to see us safely into a mid table finish in our first year back. This relegation was coming like a steam train for the last few years and thank fuck we have recovered from it so quick. Over to you Fat Mike to prove the doubters wrong. Ship up or ship out. NUFC_Mag 0
Even the most pessimistic amongst you must congratulate the team and the manager if not Ashley. Although it is not a time for Euphoria and mindless optimism as the hardest part lies ahead, it is still a big stepping stone that we have passed and I will enjoy the moment bearing cautious consideration upon the future. Yes our opposition has been gash and our football unremarkable, yet 10months ago we would have snapped up this position and hopefully we are on the right way up. Well done boys! Christmas Tree 4827
Georges latest So Newcastle are up - what now? Is it party time at St James' Park? It certainly is and it’s a well-deserved blow-out, too. There have been plenty of episodes in recent years when Newcastle supporters have been driven to drink, so it’s heartening there’s now a positive reason for it. And while there have been some very enjoyable moments over the last few months, it has also been a season of hard slog. How come? Newcastle have been top of the league for most of it Yes, and the stats would suggest that it’s all been plain sailing, but nothing has come easily for Newcastle. Every victory has been worked for; I’ve often gone to St James’ Park, sat in my seat, watched them win and then come away without quite being able to put my finger on how it happened. There has been a smattering of outstanding performances, but effort, perseverance and team spirit have been the bedrock to everything. Weren't they always favourites to come straight back up? With the bookies, maybe, but you have to transport yourself back to last summer when, in the aftermath of relegation, the club was still up for sale, players were leaving, jobs were being shed and no manager had been appointed. It felt like a very, very uncertain place. You could make a case for anything happening. The fact that they’ve stabilised and, much better than that, achieved promotion at the first time of asking, is less a cause of jubilation than the feeling of a wrong being righted. That said, there has been real value in supporters watching a winning team again. So what has proved the difference for them? How did they turn it around? Firstly, they kept a nucleus of experienced players, right through the spine of the team. The likes of Alan Smith, Kevin Nolan, Fabricio Coloccini and so on struggled in the Barclays Premier League last season, but they’ve excelled in the Coca-Cola Championship. Whether they have found their form and confidence or merely found their level is open to interpretation but, to borrow that old cliche, they can only beat what’s in front of them and the whole squad has contributed. Being strong and solid and being able to score goals seems key in this division. Secondly - and this is in marked contrast with previous eras - the players presently at Newcastle want to be at Newcastle. After their 6-1 pre-season defeat at Leyton Orient, they had it out as a group - "if you want to go, go, but if you want to stay, mean it - be honest with yourselves and the rest of us" was the gist of the conversation - and they’ve benefitted from that. They might not be the most gifted collection of players in the world, but Newcastle have rarely had a stronger unit. What has Chris Hughton's contribution been? Well, it’s been huge. I certainly doubted whether he had the personality or desire to withstand a job that has spat out some fairly high-profile managers, but his ability to deflect criticism and controversy has been important to Newcastle and his quiet, calm personality seems to have infiltrated the whole club. He doesn’t provide easy fodder for journalists but after all the excesses and disasters of last season, they probably needed a spell away from the back pages. He’s well-liked by his players and, in January, he was able to eke money for team strengthening from the club’s hierarchy. I’m delighted to hold my hands up and admit I was wrong; he deserves his chance in the big league. Is it time Mike Ashley was hailed as Newcastle's saviour, too? Er ... steady on. It’s fruitless treading over old ground and Newcastle’s decline was entrenched long before Ashley’s arrival, but four managers last season and a profit in the transfer market tells its own story; even the owner described his mistakes as “catastrophic” following relegation. Having failed to sell the club, Ashley could not have walked away without writing off over £250 million of his own money but, at the same time, since the Kevin Keegan tribunal and the stadium naming-rights own-goal, there have been few obvious gaffes. An horrific wage-bill has been slashed and investment on new players was forthcoming three months ago. So that - and the realisation that things could have been much worse - has to be recognised, too. What will his approach be for next season? The club have already gone on record to say that their acquisition policy will be based on a preference to sign players who are 26 or under, for limited fees and with a potential sell-on value. Much tighter reins will be kept on their wage structure, too. At a club which has a desperately patchy record in the transfer market - where trophy signings have often been made at the expense of team-building - there is sense in that, provided that the players, like the people doing the scouting, are good enough. And they’re not exactly alone in having an eye for a bargain. Ashley’s intentions for the club remain opaque, because he says so little in public. The suspicion remains that he would consider selling if any decent offer came along, but given the economic circumstances, is reconciled to staying put for the time being. I think that contributes to the sense of Newcastle still being a club with a question mark above it. Where do they need strengthening? Blimey. You don’t hang about, do you? Can they not enjoy promotion first? They’ll need recruits in all departments apart from in goal, but maintaining unity and spirit will almost certainly be the priority. The likes of Hull City, Stoke City, Birmingham City and Wolverhampton Wanderers have all shown how pivotal that can be in the first season after promotion. So nobody's talking about qualifying for Europe next season, then? You should be careful with those stereotypes. Realism and healthy cynicism have always been a feature of the Newcastle landscape, in spite of what you occasionally see on Sky Sports News; if there are expectations in the North East, it is usually only that something will go wrong. In any case, this is a very difficult club from the one which was promoted under Keegan in 1993 and a very different game. As the Keegan and Sir Bobby Robson eras demonstrated, coupled with pride and passion, Newcastle’s support is a very powerful weapon and it is only right that a club which has had an average crowd of more than 42,500 this season should be (sensibly) ambitious. But most people appreciate that in terms of graft, what’s happened this season is merely the end of the beginning.

Imactually starting to think selling in the summer would be bad for the club...we need continuity for our 1st season back in PL.

luckyluke 2
I think it's possible to celebrate being promoted without getting carried away and treating it like we've actually won something of worth or anything. I certainly won't be nursing a hangover after getting blind drunk in celebration as Stevie has demanded somewhere else on here. Interesting thing about Ashley is that he looks to have genuinely been celebrating when we've scored in recent games. Maybe he isn't out to completely rinse us dry. Or maybe he's just glad because he can make more money out of us. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months, what sort of stuff him (i.e. Llambias) comes out with. JawD 99
You know, stepping back I think I'm perhaps being harsh on the current squad. While I wont afford MA any pats on the back and I'm hardly skipping down the street in joy, I think Chris Houghton deserves a lot of credit for the way he has went about things. Evenn under JFK the state of the club was embarrassing with his crude outbursts. You can't critisise the players or management for the league being crap. all you can do is play who is put in front of you and I think they have went about that in a very professional manner. I am pleased that the club may have regained some of its credibility. Something we're not under CH is a laughing stock. This, is something I hope we retain moving forward. Forget the "success" of the past, this is the here and now and CH and the squad at the very least deserve out support. I will add, I do expect MA to invest in the summer, but I'm not holding my breath. Sensible signings and strengthening of the squad is in order. I do think a DOF would be useful, but not one to interfere with CH but support and guide him, something he can't get from DL.
