Fucking hell man, can somebody from another club not post on here without being subjected to the my club's bigger than your club crap. Who gives a fuck.

banter.

Go on Gem, crack a daft gag that has nowt to do with football. Or hijack a thread which is a serious attempt to review a book.

That thread was just a new vehicle for you to tell us how great Shepherd was, and how much cleverer than the author you are. It failed on both counts.

sorry, but you are wrong. You shouldn't put words into the mouths of others when they don't say things.

precisely. Gem was either pissed last night, or up too early this morning. Probably both.

He's on the wagon according to latest reports.

he doesn't seem to be getting much sleep either, sitting in front of his PC all night like he does.

 Not all of us wake up with a hangover, wondering what pearls of wisdom we posted the night before. I was in bed at 10, woke up around half 5, for reference. I'm happy to keep a sleep diary if you think it would help.

I had a good chat about my boss today who is a ST holder at Bellend Rd and has been for 22 years.

He said "People say were a big club, yet Ive watched more of Leeds out of the top flight than I have in the top flight"

 Nice bit of perspective. Btw, this VISG kid seems canny but it'll only be a matter of time before he's browbeaten and fucks off.

Didn't start what? You definitely started your tedious "book review" thread. Am I confusing you?

most of the Leeds supporters I knew when I lived in Scarborough accepted what I said to him, to their face. He seems a canny bloke, he can only talk more sense than some on here who support the toon. I'm quite happy to talk about the Don Revie days to him if he likes, they were a great side. Brian Clough, with Peter Taylor would have continued their success but that is just opinion. Shame for them it didn't work out for them and they ended up at Forest instead. That's football.

Edited not to aid my comprehension, but because what you said made no sense. bit embarrassing. If only you applied that filter to everything else you posted.

stop derailing the thread, and get back to work, or at least try and post something about Leeds United. But as you can't post anything worthwhile about Newcastle United, this is highly unlikely.

Back on topic, Leeds was a proper proper intimidating place to go in the early 90s, atmosphere always seemed immense. Who knows what would've happened if they'd beaten Rangers in 1992.

To be fair we're not a lone soldier in terms of brilliantly supported teams despite winning fuck all. The Chicago Cubs havent won a World Series since 1908 and are still well supported, Man Utd always had the highest crowds in England even through the years they were wank and in Division 2 etc., then theres teams like Green Bay Packers and Barca who are as much a part of the local identity as Newcastle. If Barca went down to Adelante theyd still get the biggest crowds in European football imo, similar situation with the Packers, mostly idiotic fans with shit cheeses on their heads but if they went through a lengthy rebuilding process theyd still sell out every game. Its all subjective but Leeds definitely arent in the group of teams with brilliant fans.

When were Man Utd wank like? They had one season in the old Division 2 and got promoted with a young, exciting team. They went about 30 years without winning the title but they won numerous trophies in that time.

Aye thats 30 years not winning the title whilst still maintaining Englands highest crowds. People want to see top football and an occassional FA Cup win just isnt anywhere near constituting a 'top side'. Especially as this was in an era of dump sides like Derby winning an odd league title here and there. Point being you have to give em credit where it's due.

Actually it was the Cubs I was referring to and not the White Sox in my earlier post. Maybe the Detriot Lions have a case as well.

With regard to Man U, I'm not sure they have always had the highest crowds - It was Newcastle who set the highest average crowd ever recorded at that time for an english football season when back in the 1945/46 season we had an average of over 56k (it was actually in the 2nd Division as well). I think this stood as a record until Man U beat it in the 1970's.

Younguns man, I cringe when I hear their patter or read their pish. It's a talksport world of distorted truths. Basically Newcastle are fucking fantastic support wise like ever, and anyone who denies it is a mug. That truly is my stance. I think it was you who made the point that when people are putting us down, they'll twist things unbelievably so there's never a fair comparison between us and other clubs.

Man Utd became the biggest club in the world after Munich. Newcastle and Arsenal were much bigger clubs before then, that's a fact, and because Munich, Man Utd became the first club probably in the world to be supported by OOT's. The sympathy they got from Munich was worldwide, it made them romantic and their 1968 European Cup win cemented their place. Looking at bare bones figures never tells you the full story.

I'm not criticising their support though. A quick check reveals in the 26 year period in which they failed to win the league they won one League Cup, two European trophies and four FA Cups. Not to mention loads of high league finishes. That's not exactly 'wank', is it?

It is compared to the crowds they were getting, im not denying the brilliance of our fans and ive spent a lot of time in the city so im not some random ooter who's come on giving it the big 'un while not appreciating the importance of the club. Just saying other clubs are also well supported through shite. Also, my local team plays in the conference and they usually play against around 1000 away at shite like Bath. They go away to Luton and they get 6-7k which for 5th tier is unbelievable

You just didn't realise how successful they were in that period which is fair enough but quit while you're behind, eh?

I really did, I just think their crowds were larger than they should have been. Barca being the other example. One of the most successful clubs of all time, but their fan base has always been huge. Theyve always been successful, but usually in Real Madrids shadow. I know its a shite point to make while they have the best team in the world but look at their pre 2005ish history and say that warrants 90kish crowds. Barca's a similar situation to Newcastle in terms of importance to the local culture etc, and they show what could happen if we actually won more.
