Christmas Tree 4913
I was thinking which players I would consider the best home grown player, the best non trophy player who went on to be a great player and the best trophy player. I thought it might make an interesting thread and then came up with Gazza, Beardsley and Shearer and thought thread over really? Any offers or other catergories? peasepud 59
What is your definition of trophy player? I'd never have had Shearer down as a trophy signing?
The Fish 11027
surely a trophy signing is one signed for name alone, who then fails to deliver up tot he promise of his name?
Christmas Tree 4913
What is your definition of trophy player? I'd never have had Shearer down as a trophy signing? It's a leazes mag'ism ??? which I always taken to mean when we signed an "already" good player. Leazes always talks about the old board making trophy signings which I've always took to mean they signed good players.

LeazesMag 0
What is your definition of trophy player? I'd never have had Shearer down as a trophy signing? and if he wasn't, who was ? Stupid term, used by so called "knowledgeable" supporters, scorning the purchase of top quality footballers. They deserve the likes of Mike Ashley and 2nd rate signings. Signings are either good footballers worthy of the club or not.

Sadly, other message boards, and fanzines insisted we bought lots of these "trophy" players, not me. See previous post.
