Come then end of the season when we have won promotion back to the big time who of our current lot would you be willing to let go, why and how much do you think we could get?

Nolan...Not got the legs...3mil...Wont be sold as long as CH is in charge.

Smith...I like him but maybe wouldnt cope in PL now....3mil...Id keep him as rotation unless we were offered 3mil+

Barton...Only if he doesnt show signs of the ability we know he has...2mil

Ameobi...He has had his time needs to move on...2mil

Best...Unless he starts showing promise he can go...500k...He wont be sold though

Ranger...LOAN

Butt...FREE

All said only Nolan, Shola, Best and Butt would be the ones id be making an effort to move on.

I'd sell anyone we can make serious money on TBH

Hughton has made a silk purse out the sows ear he was left but I really can't see many of the current team being able to hack it in the PL

I really dont get this delusional negativity like.

Alor of our squad have PL experience tbh....they may not be top 10 players but certainly good enough to stay up next season.

Its all about how they are managed, this season in the CCC Hughton has used them well but in the PL i personally think we will need a new manager in order to really push on.

CH mite keep us up next year but if we want to progress further then a new guy is needed, and that being the case, why wait until the season after next?

Tbh i reckon its a bit of a moot point as even if we sell anyone (and lets face it, the entire squad will be up for sale) they wont be adequately replaced.

atm Butt, Pancake and one size will be gone at the end of the season. I dont reckon they'll be too keen to get rid of many more as we would (Again) be down to bare bones.

In an ideal world tho i would want rid of Xisco, Smith and Ameobi.

Its a fair point about weakening the squad but i dont get the hatred for Smith on here like....he is commited and loves the club, has went off the boil but still can do a job. He would feature in the PL for us but id like to use him as rotation with a new battling CM in there with Guthire or Barton or if Barton goes or doesnt cut it then another attacking CM.

Xisco probably will leave for spain but i doubt Shola will go anywhere, same with Nolan and Smith....as long as CH is in charge.

what makes you think they've all suddenly improved to the point of being certain to stay up?

Hopefully Shola's goals this season will have done enough to fool another Championship team into taking him on. Doubt Shola will leave without kicking and screaming though.

The players that left were underperforming mercenary cunts who didnt want to fight for the club.

Yes the majority of players who got us relegated are still with us but that has driven them onto being more determined to get back into the PL.

We now have a great team spirit, a togetherness and more importantly a never say die attitude...we may not be the most talented bunch but the group we have want to play for the club...they have heart.

Tbf I thnk the squad was good enough to stay up last season. IMO the reason we failed was because of the managerial farce we had. Of course the players have to take some blame, but my point is that they were not the 3rd worst squad. Far from it.

On another hand, I think the current squad or as it will be end of season would struggle. Maybe bottom 6.

Id get rid of (Butt, Hall, Pancrate all taken as read) - Smith, Shola & Best.

Smith might stay, and we'd need to see how he fit in to the squad, but shola I think would again struggle and I think he's certainly lost his place to Carroll who Id be interested to see if his steady progress continued.

So you believe that we COULD be good enough to stay up then? I think so.

Smith like Nolan will still be here next season but i hope both are used as bit part squad fillers.

Id like to think Shola and Best will go too but i seriously dout either leaving simply for the fact that they are both shit.

Nice to see Carroll finally getting the support he deserves! Iv said it all season and last that this lad has huge potential and he has showed that this season, albeit against CCC teams but his ability in the are and his link up play are something you can take up and improve through the leagues, his movement is improving too! Also he is great defensively on set plays!

Yeah I do, but its woefully thin on talent. I think we have a decent enough first team to survive but its been seen as soon as injuries start to creep in we have little in the way of quality to replace. I think we could scrape survival but the squad really needs to be strengthened. More quality in depth.

i would sell or release barton, smith, ameobi, butt, best, pancrate. maybe nolan depending on who we bring in

can't think of too many others we can afford to get rid of

i beleive that with the current squad we'll just about stay up but it'll be a hell of a struggle

what worries me is a that few bad results and we'll sink back to hire and fire, morale goes south and we're back in the brown stuff

Butt & Pancrate will go as would I expect Hall although he's looked canny at times and I muse over him as back up.

If we are being ruth;ess then as much as I like the lad (really) it may be time for Shola's long delayed mercy killing (on his fitness record as much as his inconsistent playing record - thing that kills me is there IS a player in there somewhere but I doubt we'll ever find him on a regular basis).

I've wandered off track.................sadly Best doesn't begin to look the part - if we starts smashing in goals as soon as I've posted this I'll be chuffed but....

Think Smith has a "detroyer" part to play in tough away games but not anything like as regular as he does now (and perhaps he is too expensive for a bit part). Kevin Nolan may never have been in his school's 100m team but his finishing and his calmness on the ball is much under rated. Also forgotten is his past history as a good PL player for Bolton - only his last season there was poor. barton can play but like Shola hisa fitness record alone (especially when weighed against huge wages) may seal his fate.

And to finish I'd rather we went for quality than quantity - give me three / four good players rather than a team bus full of not good enoughs.....

I'm supposed to be working at home today..........................!

All out of contract and looked out of their depth this season, never mind next. I'll eat my hat if any of them play on for us next year.

He'll have two years left on his contract and I don't think it will have gone unnoticed amongst any potential buyers that he's only managed 8 goals this season, even in the championship. Can't see him going anywhere.

I'd try to cash in on Nolan's player of the year award. He's smart enough to find space in the championship, doesn't quite manage it in the top flight.

Wouldn't tinker with too much else though.

In comparison to last year, we've lost Beye and Bassong at the back of note and replaced with Williamson, Hall and Simpson, Enrique has developed, as has Kadar.

In the midfield, here are a few random starting midfields from last year. Worth a comparison to this year as the engine room of the team and the factor most identified as the weakness at the club.

Fulham Home in May (lost) - Guthrie Butt Nolan Gutierrez - 2010 is better

Portsmouth Home (drew) - Smith Butt Duff with Owen in the hole - 2010 is better

Man City Home (drew) - Geremi, Guthrie, Butt, Duff - 2010 is better (Ameobi started up front)

Stoke City Home (drew) N'Zogbia, Geremi, Guthrie, Gutierrez (If Routledge is as good as Zog, 2010 has a better look and feel)

Everton Away (drew) Geremi, Butt, Guthrie, N'Zogbia - 2010 is better for me.

That was just 5 games hit at random on nufc.com for games you'd be looking to take points in. Given the lack of intelligence of Martins, the lack of pace of Viduka and the lack of fitness from Owen, i only see the back line as significantly weakened from last season. We need to add one striker, at least 2 midfielders (one hard tackling with pace, the other with dainty feet) and a right back for next year.

On this basis, I would sell Ameobi, Smith and Butt.
