Meenzer 15731
Cameron looks like he's pooping his pants now. He's probably trying to work how the fuck he can keep his backbenchers and the LibDems anything like happy I suppose. I nearly feel sorry for him. Maybe someone told him how long the last two hung parliaments lasted. He has my deepest sympathy. I'm not just saying that because I don't like the Tories. Just seeing him on the news there again and he had a genuine look of fear / dread in his eyes. Diddums Should've won the election by a mile and failed miserably. No wonder he looks haunted. Christmas Tree 4845
The next election campaign has already started. This is all about image and positioning now so that each of them can use this period to their best advantage. Labours fucked cos they will get the blame off the Tories and the libs for all the pain that is about to come. And if the libs are nit careful, they will get the blame for triggering a quick general election. Happy Days, eh.

Business is booming, regardless. My personal circumstances, however, are irrelevant. I vote for an ideology, not a policy. I vote for what's best for everyone, not what's best for me. I was born in an NHS hospital, grew up in a council house, an was educated in a state school. None of these things would have existed without the idealogy I voted for. Incidentally, when the jobs start going, and the roads start falling to bits , the Taxi trade usually suffers. You reap what you sow.

I agree with that - especially the bit about voting unselfishly which is a core principle of mine - but as times have changed I think HF and to an extent where it was best expressed, Tony Blair had a point - there is a place for pragmatism. However Blair's mistake imo was to state that his pragmatism trumped almost any ideology - I think you need a bedrock of principles on top of which practical policies are built. I caught Brown the other day stating something simple that one of Cameron's core promises was the inheritance tax sop and that told him and should tell everyone all they need to know about Tory values - and he's dead right. spongebob toonpants 4139
The last thing the country needs is a return to ideology. We need pragmatic policies that grow the economy, invest in restructuring national production away from finance, ensuring that there is a geographically fair distribution of that growth. Yes we need to stimulate small business, the low value of the pound should be seen as an opportunity to encourage export led growth from traditional manufacturing cities, whilst investing in biotech and science driven innovation. We are still world leaders in higher education with two of the top ten universities in the world. There is opportunity in our economy as our labour laws are more flexible than our big EU neighbours. The country needs smart management, not ideology. 55% of the electorate want a progressive social democracy, PR may be the only way to achieve it. Christmas Tree 4845
I just font get this high and mighty principal crap re new Labour. I under stand it's kinda true of the old socialist Labour party but these new labour lot are not really any different to the Tories. Had labour got back in they were about to introduce the job tax to the hardest hit. Is that fair? Could they not have found that money from the rich by higher taxes or lowering inheritance tax? Is it fair these days that millionaires get child benefit? Every pregnant woman now, regardless ( I think) of income, gets a £200 grant when there about 20 weeks pregnant, why? To me Labour never seem to get the balance right between income and expenditure. This new labour lot though are just snake oil salesmen. Pretending to do great things but constantly fucking us all over by hidden taxes or selling off owned schools and hospitals to property developer chums and get shiny new ones in return that we then have to rent for eternity. It would be nice if the kind of party some of you aspire to was in existance but you are fooling yourselves if you think it currently is. Expects usual rants...... Could they not have found that money from the rich by higher taxes or lowering inheritance tax? You mean the national insurance rise for those earning over £20k? Not exactly the hardest hit group. But yeah, getting more money from the rich would be a good idea. May I propose raising income tax to 50% for those earning over £150k? Now, if only someone in politics would try and implement that idea. Edited May 8, 2010 by ewerk

The electorate has voted, and what they’ve said is we're not that keen on The Labour Party but don’t have much confidence in the Conservatives either. Why is that CT, why have the Tory's failed to convince enough people that they’re a better option than the Labour Party?

The bleat on endlessly about how a small increase in NI is going to force business to axe thousands of jobs, but at the same time want to axe thousands of public sector jobs. All of which shows that it’s not jobs they care about but the profit margins of private business, who coincidently are the same people who funded their election campaign.
