Any government thats had 13 years has used all the best people and is usually corrupt and exhausted.

The tories are corrupt before they get in man. Look at the shadow cabinet...

Hague

Has the stink of the Ashcroft affair hanging around him.

Osborne

Has the Deripaska claim, and he was one of the MPs to have 'flipped' his home in the expenses scandal.

Grayling

A mess.

Made hundreds of thousands in the expenses scandal.

Says B&B's should have the right to turn away gay couples.

Cooks the numbers on crime.

and....

On 7 October 2009 he was asked by the BBC about a Conservative Party plan to offer General Sir Richard Dannatt an advisory role. He, thinking it was a Labour appointment, said he hoped it was not a "political gimmick", and said "We've seen too many appointments in this government of external people where it's all been about Gordon Brown's PR.". When he realized he had misheard the question, and that it was a possible appointment of his own party, he said he was "really delighted" with the idea, adding "It's a bit embarrassing really because I would have liked to give General Dannatt a more enthusiastic welcome."

Pickles

had to pay back £300 following the expenses scandal.

Lansley

Another flipper

Spelman

Nannygate

Received £40,000 for cleaning and bills for her constituency home, despite being her main home.

Gove

Another flipper

Fox

Ridiculous expenses claims (£19,000 on his mobile phone)

Twice admitted to breaking parliamentary rules.

These are just the ones I've looked at so far. Every one of them, a twat. I could keep going.

All good fun Happy but totally biassed!

The point remains and is a well known political reality that all the best Labour people have gone.

I'd call it balance, given you'd presumed Labour must be most corrupt after 13 years in power.

CAMERON ON AFGHANISTAN...

The Tories will back a troops surge to Afghanistan, even though it will mean higher numbers of casualties.

"The status quo is not acceptable because we are not making progress," he said.

He warned it would take "real leadership" to maintain public support, adding: "I believe there is a lot of disquiet, uncertainty and worry.

"It won't be easy and we do have to prepare the public for the fact this will be difficult and that there will be casualties."

Mr Cameron defended Barack Obama against critics accusing him of "dithering" over reinforcements. But he added: "It cannot go on forever."

Pulling out would be wrong as there would be "a Taliban takeover", with terrorist training camps returning and a threat of Pakistan's nuclear weapons falling into extremist hands.

CAMERON ON VAT...

A strong signal that the Tories are willing to raise VAT was given by David Cameron.

“We are going to have to do difficult things,” he warned. “We don't rule out putting up taxes.

“Of course, we want spending to bear the brunt of the deficit reduction programme but no responsible government can ever rule out raising taxes.”

Mr Cameron said he thought Britain was “overtaxed” already with the new 50p top rate and rises in National Insurance.

According to tomorrow's New Statesman, Barack Obama was unimpressed by his encounter with David Cameron earlier this year and commented: "What a lightweight!" :nufc:

According to James Macintyre's report, Cameron's attempt to stress his pro-American and Eurosceptic credentials did not meet with Obama's approval. According to Macintyre's diplomatic sources, the Democratic candidate was "distinctly unimpressed" and labelled Cameron a lightweight.

Macintyre notes that 48 hours earlier Obama had delivered a speech in Berlin stressing "the importance of Europe's role in our security and our future".

Following the meeting with Cameron, Obama apparently asked officials for more information on Tory Euroscepticism. Macintyre also speculates that Cameron's support for the Iraq war – which Obama opposed – did not help the relationship either.

Got it all wrong basically.

Not quite the same magnitude really. You should be focusing on the fact that he's a fucking repulsive human being. The very idea of him being in the cabinet.

Just back from the Labour and Tory press conferences. Most important observation first: the Tories put on a very good breakfast spread: muffins, smoothies, fancy custard things with fruit and lots of cake - all paid for by Lord Ashcroft (Ashcash?).

David Cameron wheeled out Sir Michael Caine to support his plans for a national citizens service - a scheme to make young people do voluntary work at 16. Sir Michael was not entirely on message. "I hated national service," he said, before praising "this government."

There was some confusion as to whether he meant this Labour Government or he thought the Tories were already in power.

It was a clever wheeze by Dodgy Dave. The press were poised to ask a lot of difficult questions about how the Tory efficiency savings do not add up.

George Osborne has commissioned two very clever people to look at Government spending and they have said it is possible to save £12bn in the next nine months.

The only problem is we have yet to see their workings. When I was at school I was warned I would fail my GCSE maths unless I showed ALL my workings.

For me I'd rather take the dowdy and boring Brown who by all reports is intellectually very bright as against the dumbed down for the masses Cameron, who appears clueless on most things.

Michael Caine thought the Krays were thoroughly good blokes. He can fuck off.

Merging what people are saying at work and what I've read, it looks like Cameron is suffering an anti-slime/smarm backlash which is good - I think its probably a big factor in the Tories not being as far ahead as they really should be.

The tragedy is whoever gets in just hoofs there manifesto into a black hole, where is the accountability? If you fail to deliver on 65% of your proposals within 2 years then what, another election? hanging? sent to Australia? No, just cling on to power and bullshit and make sure the fat greedy scumfucks get what they want.

Get a load of the Scots and Welsh moaning because the SNP and Plaid Cymru weren't involved last night. Aye, because that wouldn't have been irrelevant and confusing at all.

Channel 4 checked up on the labour pledges and they did canny....

Conclusion

The government's record on its pledges is not bad - most have been achieved, in name at least. And if there are caveats, then you'd hardly expect otherwise.

But a few questions remain. This progress was achieved at the cost of billions of pounds of taxpayers' money. Was it worth it? And, given the two massive parliamentary majorities Blair had, could he have achieved more? Many things did get better. But could Labour have done better?

Look, its easy. Labour - how the fuck can anyone trust them? They go on an on about cutting red tape, but most of it is what they put there in the first place. Its the same red tape that was meant to be cut away last time over. Same old lip service when basically fuck all will happen. Blair was a lying twat and Brown is a bumbling idiot. Tories - Just because I dont like labour doesnt mean I have to support these does it? thing is, I support more of their stances than that of labour, but the fact is they all have to rehearse their party lines. If its something they believed then they should just be able to rattle of an answer. They are all so full of bullshit and cant answer a simple question without skirting around. They're all (labour/tories/libdems) liars with their snouts in the bucket.

For once, I wish they could come out, talk normally, honestly and openly. About as much chance of that as Lib Dems winning the election.

imo

Heard the woman from Plaid Cymru on the TV this morning moaning that the Welsh weren't interested in what goes on in England and that we should have heard more about the Welsh... errr does she think the English are going to be any more interested in what's happening in Wales?

I don't really get their arguement - they lobbied for devolution to set up their own assembly and moan that Westminster isn't focusing on them. Can't have it both ways.....

At the last election I remember Blair being asked by a lass who said she was a socialist whether as such he had anything to offer her. His answer was basically "honestly - no" which though sad from my point of view actually stood out as being very honest.

I think they should try it more often - then again I think now they are over-controlled and maybe by that stage Blair could be more open.

What is the most important single issue for people on toontastic?

For me its the economy, as everything else depends on this. I think the tories ideas on this, and the fact they would have made virtually every wrong choice since the recession started, speaks volumes. I simply can't understand how anyone would want to risk Osbourne as the future Chancellor of Exchequer. Can the tories on here comment on this?

well, im not sure that they have made the wrong decisions as they have no power to implement them. however labour does, and lets face facts here, we're still in recession, our deficit is the worst in the developed world and we're moving out of said recession slower than every other rich country in the world.

looks to me like labour are the ones who've made the wrong decisions. just my opinion.

(so ive been told)

Cameron 'I spoke to a black man the other day'.

Good for him.

Caught that before I got board and switched over  The best part was that he seemed to be arguming the opinion of this person he met, assuming he even exists, was in some way representative of immigrants in general in the UK.

Interesting to see Brown talking up the prospect of a "double-dip" recession under the Tories last night. It's going to happen either way, but this way he gets to make it their fault.
