Christmas Tree 4835
So it looks as though May 6th is the big day and that we are now going to spend 8 weeks being cohersed into supporting one side or the other. Obviously there will be the sheep on both sides who can only manage to vote one way, but for the floaters out there, who actually decide elections, are there any big real differences to excite them. 1 year ago most would have seen this as a fore gone conclusion however now it's all looking very tight and muddy. None of the usual election bribes as both sides promising cuts to tackle the debt. Are there any election bribes coming? Will a scandal or two swing it? I think this could be one of the greyest elections ever.
Guest alex
Due to where I live and the election system it's a case of safe Labour seat = no point in voting. Not that any of them have convinced me they deserve my vote anyway.

The sheep imo are those that are led by the popular media in this country.

That wouldn't be any good.

As much as i loathe and despise the BNP I'd rather people voted for them (or the Lib Dems, Green, UKIP etc.) than not voting because of apathy towards the Tories and Labour. A 30% turnout and hung parliament isn't really the kick in the arse the two parties that have shared power for over a century need.

Not that any of them have convinced me they deserve my vote anyway. exactly the same in South Tyneside. Same all over the North East. My slight leaning towards Labour stems (these days anyway) from the fact that they care a bit more about the area, even if they can be complacent about their heartland (inevitable I suppose). The Tories seem to treat us with contempt, much like the sweaties. I suppose that's also inevitable. I'm all for electoral reform because of this (and because there are much fairer systems imo). Snouts in the trough (3 at court yesterday) illegal wars ( thousands killed for oil) Tories any better? Convictions....... Aye, fair point, but I will NEVER vote tory as long as they represent the rich and upper classes, which they blatently still do. That doesn't make me a sheep though. It's funny how Cameron has got his knickers in a twist claiming tha Labour are trying to bring class warfare into it. That's exactly what I want and what I think we need. As for the skepticism that NL aren't socialists any more, I partly agree with that but at the end of the day they care more for the average person than the tories do imo. People seem to have forgotten the good things they have done (e.g. the NHS), especially now we are in a recession. I'm convinced the tories will bollocks our recovery up with massive public sector cuts and tax gains for the rich as well (e.g. inheritance tax relief). So yes, I have thought about it and choose to vote Labour, just as I always have. Baaaa. P.S. How anyone cannot see what smug self-serveing twats Cameron and Osbourne are is beyond me. Guest alex
I think I would vote Green if it wasn't first past the post. I wouldn't want them to run the country but I'd be in favour of them having more of a say in doing so. I also quite like the Lib Dems. It's far too much of a closed shop for me though at present. It's in the interests of the two main parties to maintain the status quo. You could argue PR in any of its various forms would be chaotic but the corrupt bastards running the show have had their own way too long. I don't get worked up about much but I honestly thought the expenses scandal was an utter disgrace. What made it worse was the indignation of many at getting pulled up for what they'd been doing. And while I'm at it, Cameron has a face I'd never grow tired of punching. If I wasn't so easy going, that is

If I wasn't so easy going, that is I think we need PR like, there must be some system where minority votes can get more representation without holding the balance of power. The expense scandal arose because we choose to pay GPs twice as much as MPs. Anyone who believes that politicians are or should be more ethical than the average person is missing the point imo - they are supposed to be entirely representative of the average person. I honestly believe I wouldn't abuse expenses (I never have) but some people always will. I reckon CT would for instance.

The biggest problem was they vote on their own pay, expenses packages etc. so they weren't accountable to anyone but themselves. That's open to abuse and anything that is, will be abused. That doesn't excuse it though. Good that it happened in a perverse way.
trophyshy 7084
If all the people who think there is no point in voting actually got off there arses and voted it might tip the balance. Whether the other side of the the balance is any less of a clusterfuck is pretty unlikely though.

Idiots. I don't for one second think that the Green party would get in though, that's the point. A vote for either of the main two parties or not voting at all is the same thing. It shows support or indifference towards their almost identical approaches. An increased vote for extreme left and right wing parties will both pull the main parties out of the centre towards opposing extremes as well as increasing the flexibility of the extreme parties who will push to increase their vote by becoming more centerist.
