Hopes vs Expectations

Some may call it tempting fate but assuming we're promoted at the end of this season I'd like to see what everyones hopes are for the off-season, and also what their actual expectations are.

There will be one provision on the hopes front though - the club won't be sold. Other than that hopes can be whatever you believe will be the best actions that can be taken for the club.

Expectations will be what you're expecting from our current owner/board.

Feel free to go into as little, or as much detail as you like.

I'll kick it off.

Hopes - We see 4 or 5 new faces in or about our first team. Amongst them there should be a balance of youth, creativity, pace and experience and they should be aimed at filling the holes in our side. Namely then the number one priority is a central midfield player, with focus also on a right back, and up front. In total, expenditure wise I'd be happy with 20-25 million pounds being spent on transfer fees and moderate wages. I'm not interested in us having to pay ridiculous wages to get a player here. To this end the focus may have to be on players outside of England in smaller leagues. Nicky Butt should not have his contract renewed.

Expectations - We'll see 2 or 3 new players come in but they won't necessarily be of the quality that we're hoping. All in all it will be an underwhelming offseason where Hughton and Llambias talk about the solid nucleus of players that earnt promotion that they'll be calling on to do a job in the premier league. Our total expenditure won't exceeed 10 million.

Hopes

Mike Ashley gets struck by Lightning while cleaning his pool and that Mrs Ashley takes over and reveals her secret schoolgirl soft spot for Kevin Keegan. Sports direct is sold to the highest bidder and all funds are re-directed to KK to win the Prem, then Europe.

KK strides into St James with Brian Kilkline and frog marches Llambias to the Tyne Bridge where he is greeted by a large crowd and a plank.

Expectations.

Mike realises how close he came to really losing a ton of money and backs Hughton in the transfer market. Chris turns out to be one of the greatest managers the country has seen and Leads to Newcastle to 10 trebles before leaving to takeover England.

I hardly know what to say.

I honestly think that if we got an owner/board who wanted real success, they would be hounded like fuck and not appreciated.

Whilst I can normally at least understand the ideas behind your thoughts, this is just flat out ridiculous.

Hopes

Ashley realises that you cant run a football club as a you do a shop and that it needs football people running it not greasy casino managers. Realising his maistakes in the treatment of past heroes he pulls together Keegan and Shearer to oversee all things football related.

Expectations

Ashley promotes Llambias to "grand chief of all he surveys" while bringing in the editor of "A Love Supreme" as chief executive and making the board up of 3 kids in hoodies from Walthamstow, his pet dog and one of the blokes from the background of East 17, you know one of the two that nobody can name who just danced around looking daft.

In our first game, away to Wigan, Geoff Keegan decides that its not fair leaving out the girls and insists on playing Spuggie and Jill Halfpenny up front while banning Ant n Dec from the tuck shop. Meanwhile Harry Shearer spends more time entertaining the youth team with his Bart Simpson voice than actually training them.

We lose 6 nil and its all downhill from there.

jesus christ your posts get worse every day. You only care about 1 topic so why dont you start your own thread and if people want to disscuss the chairmen/owner issue they can rather than spouting your repetative rubbish in other threads constantly

Hopes

4-5 Players come in. Proven Premiership goalscorer, RB and CM with premiership quality/experience and one maybe two youngsters to develop.

Butt retires

Club appoint a DOF to run the football side of the club and give help and advise to CH

MA/DL stop fucking whinging and going on about how grateful we should be

We stay up finishing 15-13th.

Expectation

Sign 2-3 players on the cheap, one of them maybe a loan

Butt stays

MA/DL continue to say how lucky we are being a premiership club and how Mike is pouring millions into the club every day

We constantly flirt with relegation. Where it ends, who knows...

You raise an interesting point there whereby Hughton (I'm on about next year btw) is probably the sort of bloke, due to his reputation as being a good coach but inexperienced manager is probably someone who could benefit from a DoF helping out whereas KK didn't need one. The former probably won't get one whereas the latter got one who undermined him from the off.

I think in this day and age, ALL clubs need one. However getting a good one is probably as difficult as getting a good manager.

Apologies for all my posts last night.

You guys are mad for suggesting we need a director of football.

Dekka and CH work well together. We brought in a pacey right midfielder which we desperately needed. Also, in an interview recently Dekka said we needed to bring in a creative midfielder and a striker, which i agree with.

Hope

A tabliod free summer giving stability on and off the field and when results go bad, which they do for every club, CH doesn't become a target.

IN - striker (Keane or Beckford and Fryatt), Midfielder (O'hara), Ledley (cardiff), Majewski (if they dont come up, +he's on loan at Forrest), Pennant (or other pace winger) and several other youth team players, Right Back (N.Clyne - Palace), Left back (Bertrand - reading/chelsea), pacey striker (Sears westham)

OUT - Strola, Butt, Smith, Nolan.

Depending on offer i'd happily let Colo go and try and bring in Wheater... but thats a bit pie in the sky at the moment.

Comfortable mid table finish, pushing for europe while doing the double over the unwashed.

Expect

O'Hara, Ledley and Beckford. The later two are out of contract and Spud owe us cash for Bassong. Anyone one else will be dependant on departures.

If i was betting on it I'd say the crowd turn on houghton around Sept/Oct, but thankfully Ashley will ignore them.

Comfortable mid table finish.

None of the top clubs in this country have one and the top clubs in this country are, with the exception of Barcelona, the top sides in Europe so I'm not sure that's true. You just need a manager who is a good judge of a player. I'm not saying you can't have success with one but I don't really know how you can argue you need one.

hopes - a barnstorming return to the top flight echoing the last time we were promoted, free flowing attacking football, gate crashing the top 4, full houses and becoming everyone's second team again

expectations - hughton to get the sack before christmas, ashley to put the club on and off the market at least once, more pr gaffes from llambias, a season long flirtation with relegation concluding with squeaky bum spring time
