I don't remember a rampant Souness apologist. I do remember there were people who felt Souness and Bellamy was as bad as each other and that it wasn't about taking one side or the other. 

Bellamy was an absolute arsehole. A gifted player, but too many wanted to use that to preclude him of any blame in the breakdown within the dressing room. Bellamy, Dyer & Jenas were all fucking toxic as far as I'm concerned.

Maybe not in your opinion, but there was toxic division in the dressing room and not just staff against players. 

Compare the attitude and egos of some of the playing staff back then to what it is now is chalk & cheese.

I'll tell you what happened. 

 

LeazesMag hated Souness. Basically wanted the bloke to die. 

 

LeazesMag loved Freddy Shepherd. Would have moved in with him given the chance. 

 

LeazesMag was incapable of seeing that blaming everything on Souness whilst absolving Shepherd of blame for everything was a position that simply couldn't hold. 

 

When Souness turned up, I said he needed to be given a chance, which he did. And given that chance, he completely fucked it. 

 

But that quickly morphed into endless arguments with LM trying to establish the lack of logic in his position. And him calling me the Souness lover for not allowing him to absolve Shepherd. 

 

That's what happened.

IMO the squad back then allowed Bellamy to get away with being a disrespectful cunt with perhaps the exception of Shearer which accounts for the spat. 

If Bellamy was a part of our current squad, he'd be fucking ostracised for his attitude, and rightly so. Perhaps the biggest difference between the squad back then, which on paper should have won something, and today's squad is the togetherness. 

You don't win stuff with division - yet certain members of our squad found it acceptable to court division and criminally, some of our fans found it wholly acceptable. 

Anyway, it's 20 years ago - consigned to history. Ask yourself this ... would you swap the Newcastle United of 2002-05 for the one of today? Absolutely no fucking chance - better owners, better manager, better players.

no matter within a week he was apologising for dyer having been arrested for pissing in a shop doorway on the quayside.

I was at the match at charlton when bellamy gave aouness the wanker gesture for hauling him off, he was fucking spot on, bellamy was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch.

He feigned injury because he didn't want to play in a certain position. So to answer your question - from my perspective he disrespected the club, the badge, the supporters. If people want to absolve him of any responsibility on account he was 'a gifted player' then I find it disappointing but understand I'm never going to change opinions on it. As stated, this is 20 years ago.
