England's Wayne Bridge withdraws from internationals

Manchester City defender Wayne Bridge has made himself unavailable for England selection.

In a statement released by his lawyers, Bridge said his position in the England squad was "untenable and potentially divisive".

Leaves us with a bit of a problem at left back, doesn't it...Who else is there to play in the position?

Bit of a twattish thing to do.

It's his perogative though surely? Better he make himself unavailable for selection than play and our performances suffer as a result of his differences with Terry.

I'd hardly call it twattish.

disagree completely, hes not going to play that much if cole is fit considering he is quite injury prone himself, there are obvious personal problems involved in him bring in the squad and hes 29 about the same age as a certain Alan Shearer when he retired from international football

theres one eye on his club carreer here and I think thats fair enough

Terry fucked his ex, big deal, they should be able to get past it. Even if they don't talk and aren't mates there's no reason the two shouldn't be able to play in the same team together.

Also gives Cappello time to try out his replacements in case Public Enemy #1 isn't fit in time for the WC.

I'd say part of the biggest problem is the time away from the pitch. I think that the players spend a lot of time sitting in the hotel trying to counter-act the boredom. They only train a couple of hours per day and after that, there's not much more to do.

wasn't he with her at the time though? put yourself in his shoes. could you could play alongside someone you'd found out was shagging the mother of your children while you were with her? plus it would be a media circus. the red tops would have a field day following the two of them during the tournament. better off that he's not there if you ask me.

a good point, its not like they're allowed to wander round, go to the pub or anything. they are absolutely babied, no leaving the hotel apart from under controlled circumstances

As far as I'm aware they weren't together when Terry was fucking her.

No I don't think they were but she's still the mother of his kids and who knows if he was truly over the relationship?

It's a private matter for him and to give him as much credit as is possibly, he's not once spoken about it. As Alex says he's given Capello time to source a replacement. The bloke should be respected for his decision, not criticised.

Baines has been in good form for Everton. Good penalty taker too which could be vital knowing England. Warnock is sound defensively but doesn't offer much going forward.

Fair play to Bridge, saying how he feels now lets Capello move on and avoids a potential media feeding frenzy. Cashley might be back in time anyway.

I'm not for a moment defending what Terry has done. I just think that Bridge could've gotten past it in order to play for his country at the World Cup. But as you say, it's his decision to make. I'd like to think that Terry has offered him some sort of apology and tried to patch things up but I suppose none of us know what has gone on.

I sort of agree with you but he's obviously a bit of a fanny

I think his explanation (that it's better for the team) isn't correct, he's quitting because he can't handle being in the squad with John Terry. Because he's a fanny, as we have established.

If I was Bridge I'd view the injury of Cole as massive opportunity for him to make a name for himself as an England regular and part of a (hopefully) successful World Cup winning team, and I wouldn't let that cunt Terry spoil that for me. But then I'm not a fanny.

When I read the title, I thought he had just given up shagging foreign birds

However, what goes on inside a man's mind is difficult to criticise I suppose. If it had been me, I probably would have asked if I could shag his wife to make us equal and then gone to SA.
