Kitman 2207
So basically, there was a huge civilisation that existed prior to the last ice age and some snippets of that knowledge have been kept over the thousands of years since its beginning and end(the ice age that is) As Steven Oppenheimer said in his last book (the origins of the british) we are all basically ice age refugees that some how knew where to migrate back too after the ice receded .That would sugest that there was already a civilisation in place so that the storys and heritage of those tribes lived on for the next 2000 years. which would also indicate a much older culture If you'd ever seen Conan The Barbarian, all of this would be obvious. It's all in there.

That would render a lot of this supposed knowledge useless anyway. Surely a more likely explanation is people (who have seemingly explored throughout their history) rediscovered lands that were now hospitable again as a matter of course rather than because they knew where to go. Yeah my take is that the re-population of land freed from the ice was a natural one especially given it was still largely a hunter-gatherer lifestyle anyway. You also have to consider that there were other Hominids descended from Homo Erectus who had populated the same areas a couple of hundred thousand years before that by the same natural migration. Surely that just confirms no ancient shared knowledge was required to populate (and by extention re-populate) vast swathes of the planet though. Thats the most interesting point in oppenheimer's book, there is huge evidence too suggest a very select group of mothers (in terms of there DNA) Met in these ice age refuges IE modern day Ukraine and the Iberian peninsula. But. They spread back across Europe in quite individual movements that can still be tracked in our own modern DNA. Was it just luck? or was the art of story telling already a well established means of teaching the young just throwing it out there Edited February 18, 2010 by chris p
