Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Colts slight favourites to take Super Bowl glory SUPER BOWL XLIV: New Orleans Saints v Indianapolis Colts Venue: Sun Life Stadium, Florida Date: Sunday 7 February Kick-off: 2325 GMT Coverage: Watch live on BBC One and the BBC Sport website from 2255, listen live on BBC 5 live sports extra from 2100 (UK only) Indianapolis are favoured to win Super Bowl XLIV against New Orleans in Florida on Sunday. Bookmakers expect the Colts to win by around four points, and BBC analyst Neil Reynolds said: "I think the Colts are going to win by 10." The Colts are playing their second Super Bowl in the last four years and have a very experienced team. But New Orleans boast the strongest attack in the NFL, scoring an average of over 30 points per game this season. The Saints scored a league-high 510 points and ranked first in total offence. The Colts scored 416 and ranked ninth. In quarterback Drew Brees, the Saints possess the most accurate passer in the NFL this season. But Brees has warned his team against relying on simply passing the ball if the Saints are to succeed. "You can't be one-dimensional against these guys, because they are too smart for that," said Brees. "You have to be able to pass and run. If you can do it efficiently, possess the ball, convert third downs, keep them off the field... that's the key for success against the Colts," he added. The Saints have never won an NFL title and are taking part in their first Super Bowl in their 43-year history. But coach Sean Payton - who won the NFL Coach of the Year award in his first season with the Saints in 2006 - has turned their fortunes. "A lot of people expect this to be a high-scoring game. But the two defences that are here have been outstanding in the post-season," said Payton. "Our defence has stepped up. It's hard to predict how the game will unfold." New Orleans won 13 of their 16 regular-season games and over-powered Arizona and Minnesota in the play-offs to get to the big game for the first time. Indianapolis won 14 games during the regular season and came out on top of a tense encounter with the New York Jets a fortnight ago to clinch a trip to Florida. Colts rookie head-coach Jim Caldwell is not surprised his team has made it to the Super Bowl in his first year at the helm. "I always believed we had a fine organisation and a fine team. I didn't see any reason why we couldn't continue our previous success." Despite the abundance of experience on his team, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has warned his team-mates to expect a very difficult game against the Saints. "The biggest challenge for me is preparing to play an excellent New Orleans team. This is a team that is extremely tough to prepare for," Manning said, who won the Super Bowl with Indianapolis in 2006. Manning, 33, led the Colts to Super Bowl victory four years ago but will hope his star defensive end Dwight Freeney is fully recovered from a sprained right ankle. "It still definitely is sore but it's making progress," said Freeney, who led the Colts with 13.5 sacks during the regular season. "The swelling's down and it's beginning to look like an ankle again." NFL expert Reynolds believes Indianapolis are in a good position to beat the Saints because of the experience of the team, especially Manning. "I think both teams are very evenly-matched with lots of offensive weapons," added Reynolds. "But Peyton Manning will be the X-Factor and will secure a second Super Bowl MVP crown." http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_spor...all/8491183.stm Colts are 8/15, Saints are 13/8. The Saints could do it if Drew Brees and Reggie Bush play like they can, especially if Freeney is injured for the Colts.

The league 2 play off final is bigger globally than the mugbowl. I reckon the LDV Vans globally would be about level with it.

Guest Stevie
A quick check shows last years Super Bowl had 260 million viewers and the 2006 World Cup final had between 300-400 million. Haven't found the figures for the LDV yet. Complete fucking bollocks Surely in your heart you don't believe that??? 200 million in China watch some Premiership games alone. No one is idiotic enough to believe it's 1/20th of the World Cup. Not even close - the World Cup. The Super Bowl draws primarily from the US, with a TV audience of 50 to 100 million. The World Cup draws from the entire globe and an audience in the hundreds of millions. Thinking the Super Bowl is the most widely viewed sporting event is a wonderful example of national chauvinism. Footnote: we checked the FIFA World Cup site and they report that the viewership for the 2002 World Cup exceeded 1 billion. That was for 2002. If England played Brazil in the final I think it would be the biggest viewing event in Human History, even if they come out with a global announcement aliens exist. tooner 243
talk about a minority sport.................. A minority sport with viewing figures in the hundreds of millions? Righto. Total shite. At best about 1/20th of the World Cup Final and 1/5th of the FA Cup Final even. A total non-event outside America. I will tell you now, our next live game on Sky will have more viewers outside America than the Superbowl, disgusting this wankest of sports has nine replies on this forum. 100 million plus outside America I hugely doubt 10 million outside America know the fuckin rules. It's amazing what a bubble you live in over there. No one cares and never will. 100 fuckin million CTV drew an audience of 4.16 million, up 24 per cent from last year (Indianapolis Colts-Chicago Bears). Réseau des Sport, the French-language sports service, had an audience of 905,000, a Super Bowl record for the network, up 13 per cent from 2007 and 29 per cent from 2006. Together, the CTV and RDS telecasts produced a Canadian audience of 5.065 million, which is a Super Bowl record, ahead of Global's 2006 total of 4.983 It was also the most watched Super Bowl worldwide with a total audience of 148.3 million, ahead of the previous high of 144.4 million in 2004 (Patriots-Carolina Panthers). Source Globesports.com (http://www.globesports.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20080204.wspttruth4/GSStory/GlobeSportsFootball/home) ok fair enough 100 million is in the US, i can admit when i've made a mistake. but thats still 48 million outside the US, look Stevie the point is your assertion that there will be more viewers worldwide of NUFC's next game than there were for the super bowl is plain mental. There's no way on earth 48 million people outside of America watched it, even if they were stoned flicking through channels they'd not fucking stay on and watch it. It's a tiny sport unimportant rightfully ridiculed sport, dwarfed even by the Rugby World Cup, and certainly by Cricket World Cup, when you realise the asian obsession with it. And I do know that quite a few people watch just for the adverts. right, i'm just making this up. I realize that you have the strength of your convictions behind your opinion that "no one watches that wank excuse for football", you just happen to be incorrect in this instance.
