who would you take as our second LB if not bridge?

That's the issue, in all likelihood Terry and Bridge won't start a game together, but there is no better 2nd choice left back around. He might take Lescott in the knowledge that he can play in 2 positions.

Isn't it just like the British press though? On one hand they reckon they're right behind us in the push for the World Cup and then on the other do as much as possible to de-rail our chances by posting shite like this.

tbh what Terry does in his private life makes no odds on the England captaincy - it should all be about what he does in the dressing room and on the pitch and nothing else.

The lack of any comment from the FA suggests to me that they're in favour of getting rid of him - they're still shitting it after the Sven, Palios, Faria Alam carry on. IMO I think it's Capello that wants to keep him to give us the best possible chance in the summer. For once I hope the manager gets his way.

Absolutley spot on.

Two faced amoral shitbags which makes their decrying of Terry from a supposed moral high ground all the more ridiculous.

Can't agree with that. Somebody drew the comparison with Beckham, who kept the captaincy despite the Rebecca Loos affair. But Terry is different, you're then asking players (potentially including Wayne Bridge) to respect a man who would quite happily shag his mate and teammates missus. He's supposed to be a conduit between players and manager, how can he carry out that duty if Bridge is in the squad.

I agree re: the press, but they'll never let a good story get in the way of anything.

OK I agree it is different to the Beckham situation. It's a matter for Capello to deal with though, not the FA.

When Papavasilou (not you HF) started shagging Beresford's wife it was KK who booted him out of the door - not the club.

I agree with DS there tbh but to a further degree, the england captaincy doesn't end when you leave the stadium, you're a representative of the country, its our sport, its the worlds sport and you've got to be absolutely squeaky clean to have the captaincy IMO (which drops JT out right away as well as a few others) or at least have left your controversy quite a long way in the past.

But where do you stop? OK take the captaincy away from him but he'll still be on the pitch - still trying playing with the same bunch of players or do you suggest we drop him altogether?

Like him or loathe him, JT is one of the best central defenders this country has to offer and going to the World Cup without him would be to our footballing detriment.

It's the captaincy at stake though. No one is saying he won't go to the World Cup. Tbh I thought it was just as bad when he was doing the secret tours of Chelsea for £10k a pop. Like he needs the money. I think the taxman would be having a word with me if I was making £10ks here and there that I didn't declare as well.

He has to play, but can no longer be captain.

The press have got a hard-on for him now, so don't be surprised if there is more to come out.

Terry should stay as captain. I think he's a cheating cunt but Capello has fashioned a good unit of players and changing the captain so close to the tournement would throw a massive spanner into the works.

My thoughts entirely.

Terry has always been a dodgy hasnt he? Since the days of bottling doormen on camera when he was about 19.

I know, I've always considered him a repugnant individual and when Capello turned up he was my last choice as captain, but that choice has been made now and changing so close to the World Cup could be disastrous.

My own thoughts are that it would be more damaging for squad moral to have him as captain than not. The likelihood is that Bridge, Barry, Wright Phillips and Lescott are all likely to be on the plane and siding with Bridge in thinking the captain is scum. There will be a number who don't play for City, who are closer to Bridge and who will resent what Terry has been up to.

I reckon Gerrard could step in and do a very good job. At a push Ferdinand, Barry, Lampard and Rooney would be the only regulars with and captaincy pedigree.

Nail on head.

Last World Cup it was the NotW marketing themselves as England's official World Cup paper whilst at the same time setting up the fake sheik sting. The red tops are all repulsive.

Good point, although you may be slightly over estimating the moral fibre of your average footballer. They'll probably laugh it off at their next team-bonding-stripper-spit-roasting session.
