JonTheMag 4
To be fair though. Despite the total apathy towards the players, the board, and the management, the fact that we actually made a signing is definitely a step in the right direction
OTF 7487
I shudder to think about Nicky Butt in defense. Thankfully Ryan Taylor is back for the next match. He's not a great right back by any stretch, but he's a darn sight better than Nicky Butt, and unlike Butt plays in the wide channels naturally. Could form a good partnership with Routledge. If we had the same sort of play down our right as we have had down our left we'd be a great deal more enterprising (and a larger thorn in other sides) than we currently are. .. can't really imagine Pancrate playing right back though.. would have been interesting. Ketsbaia 0
An article in the Chronicle by Lee Ryder said that Hughton was toying with the idea of playing Tavernor at the back but he wasn't even on the bench. Also mentioned that Donaldson was another option yet he went with Pancrate??I noticed that Butt was on the bench so he had to be in condition to be called upon in an emergency, surely he would have fit the defender role more than Pancrate?? You do talk some shit like. Look this fella is in his 70s he's still interested in NUFC despite deserting his country 40 years ago, he's seen players who died before you were even born, so have some respect eh? He's right though Stevie. Nicky Butt in defence would've been a disaster.

Bibble 0
Stevie's right about Nolan and Carroll though. Nolan plays like he smokes 40 a day and has his legs chained together. The guy next to us called Carroll "The white Shola" Not heard that before. Initially I winced, but the more I think about it...

OTF 7487
That's bullshit. The easiest position on the field for Newcastle is central midfield. Mosey about making the occassional well timed sliding tackle, contribute nothing else yet still retain your position. Seriously though fullback is possibly a position that can be played ok without too much trouble but takes a lot to be very good. Also a lot depends on the team you're up against. A team with quick tricky wingers quickly shows up the difference between a fullback and a central defender or midfielder playing in the fullback position. Noelie 103
Noelie though...Would you actually choose to put butt in defence? With how much I know about Butt's ability to tackle and his experience as a defensive midfielder, and how little I know about Pancrate's capabilities to defend, then yes I would choose Butt before Pancrate. Truth of the matter is..........had it been upto me I would have gone to 3 at the back and 5 across the middle.
