What are you drinking?

As regards the Schooner it's just tradition to top it up maybe in the belief you'll get a better drink. The Dog bit I'm assuming you already know.

So a schooner is a half?

Just seemed a bit girly this famous "tough" Geordie drink being offered in a half.

Honestly, it's completely implausible CT that you grew up in the 80s on Tyneside and could be this ignorant of the regional drink. You absolutely HAVE to be taking the piss.

Was my poison of choice back in the day. Five dog and 20 Marlboro was my night out.

Are there any specialist places in Newcastle where I might pick up my stuff for my Mai Tai?

Try ringing around some places. Try the supermarkets first - Sainsburys is probably your best bet. It's probably worth trying Rehills cos their booze section is ridiculous. I'm going to the decent off licence over here today so will have a look for it.

Really starting to develop a liking for Newcastle Brown Ale as well.

Bar man asked me if I wanted a half pint glass??? Reckoned it was tradition?

 Listen to Mr. Working Class there.

Cocktails are shit, even in hot countries. I've tried the lot and can pretty much vouch they all taste the same - sweet and unpleasant. This is the time of year for a nice quality single malt.

Maybe should alert Floritas and the rest of the Trillion dollar cocktail business.

I've been to Florita's in Havana and enjoyed cubre libres and mojitos there. Also enjoyed cocktails in the odd gay bar ;). It's all about context though. The idea of a Miami themed bar on Newcastle is naff. I'm guessing the trillion dollar remark as made up btw.
