The iPad thread

Tell me, when you are multi-tasking on the archos (have music, photos and a movie all running with perhaps some office software) does it actually resemble a modern windows based computer? By that i mean slow as fuck and crashes a lot. :)

Out of interest, why would you want to look at photos while watching a movie and listening to an album all at the same time?

:)

While perhaps not wanting to use that exact configuration of applications, if anyone else came out with a similar system that didn't allow multi-tasking it would be derided as being useless. It's just about acceptable in a phone but on a tablet/netbook it renders it pretty useless for most modern users who like to flick between applications.

I still dont get this, the iPod works over safari, iTunes plays inside iPhoto. If the application closes and opens instantaneously and saves where it is then i cant see how it makes a difference. I can see it being an issue on minor apps but not the built in ones. Since the iPod runs on iPhoneOS behind all applications then its safe to assume you can listen to music whilst working on iWork too. Have you used multi-tasking on a jailbroken phone? Has anyone on here? I have, serves no purpose whatsoever.

Am in San Francisco in March so will have a look at it in the store.

With regards to multi-tasking, it's not correct to say that the iPhone & iPad can't multi-task. An application does go into suspended mode whilst you're using another one but the same can be said of devices running Windows Mobile.. (which is as slow as fuck!)

Don't forget Apple are using the same mobile OS on the iPad as they us on the iPhone - it won't be running OSX.

Getting one for our lass. Will keep her away from my mac so i dont have to panic about whether i was private browsing late at night.

Watched the Gadget show last night, reviewed Archos alongside iPad. Archos for 1 out of 5, iPad got 4 out of 5.

Can't believe it doesn't run Flash. That's the biggest let down of the iPhone imo (that and the shit bateery life and camera). But worst of all, it's purely down to Apple's dogmatic cuntery.

Adobe announced in the last few days they're going to stop trying too.

They're concentrating on Android technology.

OK, I'm no techie, but is this not the most pot calling kettle black comment ever?

Apple responded in a statement to technology news site CNet in which it described Flash as "closed and proprietary".

I should have mine on Wednesday this week. Shipped from the US with the case all in £440.

Yes, I succumbed.

Who is that through mate?

Rumoured it's going to be considerably more than that over here.

Apple generally just change the $ to a £ when they launch over here don't they?

You can get them for $499 anyway which is about £330 innit?

Just someone I know in the US. They are in short supply there (Im sure they do that on purpose). So he kept me up to date with his order. They were shipped from China (where Apple make them) and arrived in the US last week. He got them today and is sending them FedEx.

10th May for UK prices btw.

I played with the i-pad in the apple store earlier. Looks sexy but im sticking by my original statement that it doesn't fit.

Iphone and MacBook will suffice for me.

Needs to be more object orientated ie killer ap for my money. If the piano keyboard could talk to synths for instance.

Getting one for our lass today. Will report in later.

Money would be better spent buying her, her own porn collection which you'll need to vet from time to time.

On the contrary, will be easier to manage my own collection :icon_lol:

I just hope its baby-proof.
