My mate was just saying last night he's losing interest in football because of the lack of even level playing field. Oxford could beat Man Utd in the 80's and it wouldn't be that eye raising. Greed has consumed world sports biggest global brand as it always would. The thing is if we had our own powers, and didn't rely on those foreign cunts in Europe making decisions, we could implement wage caps potentially using our own new jurisdiction. I think you've misunderstood who dictates whether or not there's a salary cap.

 

UEFA could impose a cap. But they want the best players in the world playing in their competitions (The Champions League, UEFA Cup). That's how they get a worldwide audience, and none of the teams competing are short of a bob or two anyway.

 

THE FA could impose a cap, but it would not be enforceable in UEFA competitions. So teams would either have one squad for the domestic league/cup and another for European football....or would leave the domestic league altogether to chase bigger bucks.

 

There's no law against it. It just wouldn't pay any of the associations to implement it in their competitions.

The thing is though, the top players have started going to France now where there's no salary cap iirc for Rugby Union. To make it work it would have to be across Europe which is where you might encounter problems with the EU.

Fuck all to do with the EU, more to do with the fact that if England introduced a wage cap without other countries doing the same then the players would just go to Spain, Italy etc for money English clubs couldn't offer.

I'd say clubs can spend 20% of their turnover on players wages, and that really would bring the game back to the people.

Obviously but there always was, but not as insurmountable as there is today. Look at Wolfsburg. You look at history, stature, infrastructure say 3-5 years ago, who are the English equivalent? I'd say maybe Southampton or even Boro. They're never winning the league the way we are at the moment.
