snakehips 0
I wonder what would happen in UK ? Being part of the EU, would 'we' be allowed to ban the building of such things, without the Court Of Human Rights, or whatever it's called, telling us we can't ? Genuine question btw, not trying to stoke up an argument either way.

The church bells go on for an hour after every wedding. They can get oultlawed along with the call to prayer as far as I'm concerned. And the townhall clock at the bottom of my road that does a big ben impression every 15 minutes. I'd hate money to be wasted on a nationwide vote against any of them like. I think you would have to prove that it comes under 'health and safety' regulations to be able to sidestep it. Actually, you could easily do that given that's how they are banning gambling in some places, so you would be able to. But should you have to jump through loop-holes? HF - I know you're smart enough to see that that's dangerous thinking, I'm not sure I want to get into the gritty details though. That's the problem of having fun in these threads, real danger of serious conversation.

ChezGiven 0
15m sounds like an awful lot doesn't it. Of course, the 500m population of the EU would make the average around 3% of the population. Compare that with the number of christians in the middle east... Lebanon - % Christian: 34-41% Israel - % Christian: 2.1-2.8% West Bank and Gaza - % Christian: 1.1-2.4% Egypt - % Christian: 8-16% Syria - % Christian: 5.4-9.4% Jordan - % Christian: 3-4% Iraq - % Christian: 2.7- 3.5% http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4499668.stm We go over there, stealing their jobs and opening our churches. We should be banned. Christianity was in those lands before Islam. "Going over there"? Anyway, referenda are shit ways to make these sort of decisions. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arrow's_i...ibility_theorem

Guest alex
Daily Mail? Seems a bit Draconian like. I read the pop. is about 6% Muslim (mainly refugees from the former Yugoslavia) and about 13% of those practice their religion. Admittedly I read that in The Journal. I used to do the same when I was interviewing with anyone who had taken 'a gap year'. The domain of the spoilt middle class. No good to anyone. Later I refined this to anyone who had a house address such as 'The Bridles' or 'Rose Cottage'...Anyone who played hockey or had a scuba diving badge of any kind. I reckon people on them fall into two categories: people who pay their own way through saving before they go / working when they're away are alright whereas the ones funded by Bank of Mam and Dad are a bit twatty. Like most generalisations there are exceptions but it's not a bad rule of thumb imo. It's not just a class thing either as the 2nd group are, by their nature, younger. Although class has a canny bit to do with it as well. Edited December 1, 2009 by alex

I thought you were fairly priveleged? We had a lot of money once. But essentially I know the type. I basically hired hungry working class/lower middle class kids who were honest and I felt really were looking for a chance to do something...Rather than the whiny middle class brat over obsessed with himself/herself. I also made a point of not hiring anyone who had a first (Uni is for finding yourself and mixing with others not burying your head in books). I didn't hire people who said, 'Hi' rather than 'Hello'..People who wore pointy shoes or excessively bright ties, people who asked for water, who didn't take sugar...There were many things in my retinue that would cancel out a good interview in one moment.
