Portsmouth target Amr Zaki has talked his way out of a move to Fratton Park after launching a racist attack on director of football Avram Grant and two of their players.

Former Wigan bad boy Zaki had been lined up for a January switch to the south coast by Portsmouth chairman Sulaiman Al Fahim.

Zaki says he would not be willing to play for Israeli Grant or alongside the ex-Chelsea manaZaki, speaking on his own website, said: "I refused their offer before, but now joining Portsmouth is no longer an option for me.

"After Portsmouth signed an Israeli player (Ben Haim) and also hired an Israeli football director (Grant) a possible move was ruled out.

“On top of that, no way could I play at Portsmouth with an Algerian (Belhadj) within in their ranks."

Portsmouth manager Paul Hart had already told Al Fahim he did not want Zaki because he feared he would be unsettling in the dressing room.

ger's fellow countryman Tal Ben Haim.

The Egypt striker also says he would be unwilling to line up in the same team as Pompey's Algerian defender Nadir Belhadj after last weekend's controversial World Cup play off clash between the two countries.

Draconian to say the least in this day and age, in the age of intergration, someone as high profile as Zaki, uttering vile racism because of someones faith and nationality, well it shows the mentality of some of them. FIFA will do fuck all of course, because the victim is jewish, not black, islamic or Asian.

Stevie's got a point I suppose, it'd be different if it was a white player saying he "didn't want niggers" in the team or something. That said it's all pretty yawn-tastic these days :D

I think it's pretty damn shocking to be honest. The bit about Belhadj is fine, for me, because I can understand Zaki's frustration at losing his spot at the World Cup to a terrible team like Algeria in an extremely charged encounter, but the comments about the two Israelis are totally uncalled for and could be a lot more troublesome than they seem at first glance.

Egypt is a trailblazer in Israeli (and Western) relations and the example for the rest of the Arab world, and for highly-prominent figures like him to be talking this way endangers that status. This is hardly the first time he's shot his mouth off though. Another idiot, like Mido, who has the skills to be a quality player but not the attitude.

What do you base that on like?

I thought Emre and Ferguson got away with it while Evra got charged and handed a four match ban.
