Sting and the police

OK, I've got the album CT referred to on the OP on my MP3, and given it a listen. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

CT, I'm curious why you rate their music lyrically? Most of it is banal beyond belief imo, as bad as Oasis if not worse. Or am I missing some deep meanings in songs like Walking on the Moon and a Doo dooo dahhh?

Roxanne is an absolute classic like.

I've called you so many times today

And I guess it's all true what your girlfriends say

That you don't ever want to see me again

And your brother's going to kill me and he's six feet ten

Just love it :lol::rolleyes::huff:

Takes more than combat gear to make a man

Takes more than a license for a gun

Confront your enemies, avoid them when you can

A gentleman will walk but never run

If, "Manners maketh man" as someone said

Then he's the hero of the day

It takes a man to suffer ignorance and smile

Be yourself no matter what they say

Theres no real point trying to debate them as it just comes down to what floats your boat and we are all different, however.......

If HF is right and their tour was the 3rd biggest ever in history (i assume thats worldwide( then its safe to say a lot of people are getting what you refer to as ZZZZZZZZ!

But as I said, its down to taste I guess.

Of course it is, and popularity has fuck all to do with it as well. I liked the Police in the 80s, just imo they haven't aged well (I know you disagree). Neither have bands like Dire Straits or Boomtown rats imo. They're definitely not under-rated though.

Lyrics that are profound and are too deep do my head in. This song only has three words but the message is clear and says it all in my view if you listen to the song.

"We're only making plans for Nigel. Nigel just needs a helping hand. And if young Nigel says he's happy, he must be happy, he must be happy in his world." Fucking class track, make no mistake.

Brother-in-law went to school with most (if not all) of XTC.

"Shitley Bay" Alex ??? WBAB gonna get you for that :lol:

Pretty sure I've got 'Roxanne' on blue vinyl at home.

Nice facts and figures

I love that method of dismissing facts as if they cloud the issue.

XTC were a far better band and never got close to the widespread recognition The Police got.

I call bullshit on that one..........at least from a percussion stand point,

Stewart Copeland on drums ( when the world is runnning down), second only to Neil Peart , now Sting on bass, well I'm willing to concede to XTC on that one, Andy Summmers was pretty good at what he did

I would argue that no one (except the Clash and maybe Bruce Cockburne) was doing what the Police where doing with Reggae and new wave/ punk music,

XTC (excellent band by the way) and Strontium 90 have more in common than XTC and the later incarnation of Sting Andy and Stewart

but then there's never accounting for taste in music
