Guest alex
From the little bit of highlights I've seen plus the Forest match it's becoming more apparent (especially away) that we're susceptible to a big hoof from the back. We're absolutely fucked in this league if we don't address that soon. I know we're missing Taylor but I don't think he's that big and strong but he's the closest thing to a big, strong CB we have. We're crying out for at least one more defender who is commanding in the air.

I don't think either Kizh or Simpson look particularly comfortable at CB.
trophyshy 7083
Carroll could do a job at the back tbh. Let Tonto and Crazy frog do the biz up front for a while. Edited October 22, 2009 by trophyshy

I don't think either Kizh or Simpson look particularly comfortable at CB. I think any three could play there with Taylor as the sweeper. Unlike yourself I haven't been particular impressed with Colo this season although he's done ok. Ideally we need two big lads in there but since Taylor's the only one we have who's close to fitting that bill he's the biggest miss for me. The law of averages says Taylor will pick up injuries because the games come thick and fast and he'll play every league game he's available for. So, saying we just need those two back doesn't address the lack of cover or options there. I think we've been sussed in that it's an area teams can get at us. Edit: I mean any of them sweeping rather than Taylor sweeping. Edited October 22, 2009 by alex
snakehips 0
Start with Ranger every game. He aint class, but he seems to be able to hold the ball up pretty well giving our less-than-mobile midfielders time to support attacks; winning free kicks in decent positions; keeping the opposition more in their half of the field, rather than ours. Guest alex
I think the lack of creativity is a major problem. I think a way around that is (given Nolan is scoring a few) to play with a sort of 4-3-1-2 like we did against Ipswich. That way Nolan has more of a free role and it doesn't leave us as exposed in CM. It won't give us creativity but it'll create more problems for the opposition as the two forwards dealing with outr hoofed passes will at least have him in support more often than not. Trouble is, we still need one of the CBs back to release Ryan Taylor into midfield as he's 'busy' and gets about the place. If you just have Smith, Butt and Geremi in there (which would probably be the obvious 3 out of those fit at present, excluding Ryan Taylor) you've got very little in the way of legs in there. See that's the thing for me, watching the Forest game where we had two forward both trying to flick the ball on to each other, which inevitably ends up with them both standing next to each other flicking the ball onto the opposition defenders. Rangers ability to hold the ball up allows his strike partner to move with the last line of defence and also gives our creaking midfield time to join the attack. A 4-3-1-2 with Nolan or Jonas behind Ranger & Carrol/Harewood/Stroller would suit the players we have.
