Oh the agony of indecision.

Once in a lifetime cosmic event of spectacular proportions or two bottles of Grolsch and a Radox bath.......

Get one of those projectors, hook it up and point it at the ceiling then turn off the bathroom light. Now you can enjoy both!

So decided to give it a miss and head for the bath.

Just stretched out in the water and the phone rang. Eldest daughter...."Have you heard about the aurora bla bla bla.....are we not going to go looking for it......bla bla bla.

15 minutes later, two daughters, two boyfriends and a Nissan Note, heading through the Tyne Tunnel to find somewhere Dark.

Eventually turned off the A1 a few miles past Amble.....approx 35 miles from Boldon.....and headed up a tiny country road for a couple of mile until a suitable parking space (field entrance) was found.

All jumped out the car and stared and stared and stared.......

No aurora but I must say the stars were truly magnificent and you could really make out some of the good constellations.

All in all, 30 or so cold minutes in a farmers field in the middle of nowhere before heading home.

Apparently the biggest Aurora storm since 2005 is currently on its way and will hit at some point tomorrow. Whether we have clear skies is a different story.

Not sure where to head, but it wont be Amble.

spent a couple of hours on the beach at druridge bay. No lights but a few canny snaps of the stars. I'll hoy some up once i import them. Pleasant use of a clear night whatever the sun hoys out.

Haha same here mate, took everything bar the kitchen sink... well everything but a torch which made the 5 minute hike to the beach from the car park a bit of a nightmare lol!

Luckily managed to follow a group with some torches :)

My phone's got a torch on which I used, but it was still a nightmare, didn't have a clue where I was headed to get over the dunes. I'll know for next time.

Cheers for the advice btw Alex, St Mary's was heaving with cars so I was glad to go a bit further up the road but not too far.

Cloudy the neet apparently. Thursday is meant to be the next clear night.

Aye shame. The big hit is due late this afternoon and they are advising anyone with clear skies to get out as soon as it gets dark.

Should be the best show since 2005.

Took a few snaps last night of the stars, here's the best one... really amazing to see so many stars and the camera managed to capture even more than the naked eye could see!

One lad on twitter out looking for the Aurora reckons he found a new dogging site in druridge bay

 That's not why I recommended it, I hasten to add.

I was hoping to go the night but the cloud is making it somewhat pointless. Going to see if it is still around tomorrow or not. The CME from yesterday morning is said to hit here this afternoon so Im not sure if it will still be around?

Either way I might have a mess around tomorrow and also try for some star formations or whatever if its clear.

Funny what you pick up like. I was surprised that I could find the plough and that fella with the belt. Never seen them before. Always thought astrologers were dafties randomly picking 6 or 7 of the hundreds of stars and deciding what makes a constellation. They really do stick out though.
