with hindsight lad [but I knew all along I was right] some posters on NO have since admitted that I was the only one who called the Halls/Shepherd and Mike Ashley correct all along [not strictly true because there was a small amount of others too]. The vast majority being idiots like you ie 17 year old spotty kids from Singapore.

Leazes, at what point did you turn against Mike Ashley?

Before he knew anything about him.

I realised quite quickly ie a week or two, that he didn't have the ambition for the club or knowledge about football to succeed or want to succeed.

This was due to a series of happenings, all put together. Allardyce complaining about "lack of support on a day to day basis",his mouthpiece the clueless Mort trying to tell us that the buying of players was "good business", the blatant arse kissing of people in town by buying them drinks and acting like the "local hero", the lack of PR and positive comments and direction coming out of the club.

Most people were happy to see the back of Shepherd. I knew the Halls and Shepherd would be difficult to replace with better. This wasn't rocket science, you just needed to be objective and open minded enuough to see the huge strides the club made under them and not be deflected by the gutter press attempting to turn people against them. Of which they succeeded, as they do.

All of which happened more than a week or two after he bought the club. You didn't like him simply because he wasn't Freddy Shepherd and effectively forced him out of the club. You got lucky with how bad Ashley has actually been.

rubbish.

You can think what you like, but when you have seen shit people run the football club, it is easier to spot them. Simple fact is, I saw through him because I didn't have my head up my arse thinking anybody would be better than Shepherd like most people did.

I said they would be difficult to replace, and the fact that only 4 clubs did better than them during their time in charge proves it and totally upholds it.

You were against Ashley before he took over though, that's the "history" you seem to forget when telling the world you were right and everyone else was wrong.

It's like me saying we will definitely score on Sunday, 50% chance I will be right then I can claim I knew all along when it was only ever going to go one of two ways.

Tell you what Leazes, as you're keen to bet to settle this dispute. I'll bet you that our finishing position this season is better than the finishing position of Shepherd's final season? (Therefore improved on what he inherited)

Take my bet of not?

Whilst conveniently overlooking the fact he got us relegated?

I was in no way a fan of Shepherd, but he chaired this club for 10 years without so much as a whisper of relegation ever being a possibility. Ashley took us down within 24 months.

We were already declining when Ashley came. He didn't take us down, he failed to prevent it

No it isn't. Whilst we flirted mid-table in certain years (98-00 & 04-05 & 07) we were never in any real danger of sinking into the Championship - There was always at least half a dozen sides considerably worse than we were.

2006-2007 under Roeder we came 13th but only 5 points above relegation. We had an unexpected away win at Sheffield United but if this was reversed we would have been perilously close to relegation at the worst possible time. It didn't happen obviously but to say it was never a possibility displays exactly the same arrogance that condemned us in 2008-2009.

no I wasn't. I just had reservations about any new owners because I didn't have my head up my arse about the Halls and Shepherd.

Go back to Hemel Hempstead or wherever it is you live, you clearly have little knowledge of Newcastle.

Tell you what, you look through my posts on Newcastle Online and see how long it took me to post my thoughts on this, as I can't.

Hardly arrogance, it was fact. We were a considerably better outfit than Watford, Charlton & Sheff Utd and the table proved it. IIRC Wigan got away by the skin of their teeth too.

Any the point being argued is side-step. This isn't about just the chairman of the football club. We finished 13th in that season for a damned sight more reasons than just Shepherd in quite the same way that if we finish 12th or higher it isn't solely down to Ashley.

Just bemuses me how many on here at the minute can't accept someone elses point of view without spitting out their dummy, snapping crayons and generally going on like a twat. The craic from the likes of Alex is good as he can give an opinion thats different without feeling the need to be an arse.

He can?
