Again, and? Many people hadn't heard of him, fact. I've never even heard of the source awards.

And I was just confirming what 2J said. People had heard of Biggie when he died and he was widely regarded as the best.

I've never even listened to the bloke so I've got no opinion of how Jay Zed compares. Personally I prefer Chuck D to all of em.

The Source was the pre-eminent hip-hop mag for 20+ years...until their feud with Eminem and Fiddy.

Perhaps he was heard of if you were into that kind of thing, which at the time, i wasn't. I'd argue that he became largely more popular in death.

As did hip-hop.

11th number one album in a row? Anyone listened to it yet?

Is he still trying to be Notorious B.I.G?

No, because people have heard of him whilst he's still alive.

Pretty sure by the time Biggie died he was arguably the biggest name in hip-hop like. That and Jay-Z could never release an album anywhere near as good as Ready 2 Die.

By the end of the year, Wallace was the top-selling male solo artist and rapper on the U.S. pop and R&B charts. In July 1995, he appeared on the cover of The Source with the caption "The King of New York Takes Over". At the Source Awards, he was named Best New Artist (Solo), Lyricist of the Year, Live Performer of the Year, and his debut Album of the Year. At the Billboard Awards, he was Rap Artist of the Year.

And? I'm as much of a biggie fan as any hip-hop fan, I know how good he was, but he didn't have the career Jay-Z has had because he's dead :o I don't know if you've ever seen Fade To Black but if you haven't, you should watch it.

I'm sure if you asked anyone musically who had the better career all would say Biggie simply due to the quality of his material rather than the quantity and his ability to crossover if you will.

Fucking hell

Great counter argument btw.

So can you name me any of Jay-Z's album that are as good as Ready 2 Die or Life After Death?

Blueprint is a good album btw.

It once again is a decent album but it isn't on the same level as the above.

It's a little bit unfair to compare the two as one is by someone who is now dead and has so much status because of it. If Biggie was still alive and making albums, Ready To Die wouldn't be the legendary album that it is. So anyway could you elaborate on how Jay-Z is trying to be Biggie?

Anyone going to see Tinchy Stryder tonight?

So you're saying that when it came out Ready 2 Die wasn't at all rated as the album to put the Eastcoast back on the map and it wasn't already "legendary" when Biggie was alive. It was a stonecold classic pretty much as soon as he realised it. I can't take actually take your opinion seriously if you think The Black Album is as good as Ready 2 Die.

I can't find the file now but I had an mp3 years ago which had pretty much every line in that Jay-Z had bit from Biggie. There was quite a lot of content shall we say.

Seriously, if you haven't heard of The Source then your credibility is gone.

What credibility on musical opinion? Fuck off, tit.

If you haven't heard of The Source then I doubt whether you know much about hip-hop at all.

Btw, The Source is even referenced by your crush in his lyrics.

Sorry i'm not as big of a geek as you are and therefore haven't memorised or rehersed Jay-Z's lyrics, and also I'm into listening to the tunes that I enjoy rather than wanking over who wins the awards

Hey y'all, I'm Jonny2Gay and I'm still dodging the question about how Jay-Z is 'trying to be biggie'

:o What a tool. Your responses to any valid point that I have made show that you don't really know what you're talking about.

As I've already mentioned I've heard him several times use some of Biggies rhymes.

He's used Linkin Parks rhymes and Coldplays rhymes as well :o You are a complete tool. He's one of the best and most unique talents in the industry. I suppose every boyband is trying to be the The Beatles and every white male solo artist is trying to be Elvis?
