Deano 0
Got to bounce back strong against the CCC bottom side who are yet to record a win and stand on a futile 2pts. We are still missing Shola and Jonas but Alan Smith is back after his 1 match ban and new loan signing Zurab Khizanishvili should make the squad. Likely line up... ---Harper--- ---Simpson---Saylor---Colo---Enrique--- ---Raylor---Smith---Butt---Barton--- ----------Nolan----------------- ---------------Carroll---------- SUBS: Krul, Khizanishvili, Geremi, Kadar, Guthrie, Ranger, Lovenkrands I think the boys will want to bounce back strong after wednesdays upset at Blackpool and with the bonus that the top 2 sides play each other so any result will be good for us although a draw would mean should we beat Plymouth we would regain top spot and sit 2pts clear of Boro and WBA. I think we will turn in a good performance and should we get an early goal could see a big score. 3-0 Paddy Power match betting odds: Home win correct scores: 1-0 @ 5/1 2-0 @ 5/1 3-0 @ 15/2 4-0 @ 14/1 5-0 @ 35/1 2-1 @ 7/1 3-1 @ 10/1 4-1 @ 20/1 3-2 @ 25/1 4-2 @ 60/1 First scorers: Carroll @ 9/2 R.Taylor @ 16/1 Ranger @ 9/2 S.Taylor @ 18/1 Nolan @ 11/2 Geremi @ 20/1 Guthrie @ 11/2 Coloccini @ 25/1 Lovenkrands @ 15/2 Enrique @ 40/
Jimbo 175
Newcastle v Plymouth Coca Cola Championship Venue: St James' Park Date: Saturday, 19 September Kick-off: 1500 BST Coverage: BBC Sport website, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC local radio, Final Score & highlights on The Football League Show TEAM NEWS Newcastle are without Shola Ameobi (foot) and Jonas Gutierrez (hamstring), but Alan Smith is available again after serving a suspension. Defender Zurab Khizanishvili is in line for a debut following his loan move from Blackburn Rovers. Plymouth are set to include Australian defender Shane Lowry after signing him on a three-month loan from Aston Villa. Striker Bradley Wright-Phillips is pushing for a starting place having recently recovered from a knee injury. MATCH PREVIEW Newcastle's storming start to the season was interrupted at Blackpool, where the Magpies suffered their first Championship defeat. News that top scorer Shola Abeobi faces two months on the sidelines was another blow. Now they are looking to get back to winning ways against a struggling Plymouth side that are bottom of the table and without a win this term. The pressure is growing on Paul Sturrock, whose second spell as Plymouth manager is turning into an unhappy one. Another Argyle defeat would be a sixth consecutive loss for the first time in 42 years. They desperately need to turn their season around but few will fancy their chances of causing an upset at St James' Park, where Newcastle have won all three of their games so far. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head • Newcastle and Plymouth are meeting for the first time in 18 years. • They first played against each other in the league in 1934 and Plymouth's only win at St James' Park was 2-0 in the old Second Division in September 1961. Newcastle • Newcastle have one of the two remaining 100% home records in the Championship. The Magpies and Bristol City have both won all three games at home. • The Tyneside club are the only side not to have conceded a home goal in the Championship so far this season. • They also boast the tightest defence in the division, with just three goals shipped in seven outings. Plymouth • Plymouth are on an 11-match winless league run, having drawn four and lost seven since a 4-0 home victory over Coventry on 11 April. • Paul Sturrock's side dropped 23 points from winning positions last season and have already squandered an unequalled eight points this term. MOST RECENT MEETING Plymouth 2-0 Newcastle (20 December 1991) Whatever i can do you can do better ay bud? would prefer seeing ranger and carroll upfront, lose nolan and butt and play guthrie Yeah id go for Carroll and Ranger up front and an engine room of Smith and Guthrie with Raylor on the right and Barton reluctantly on the left. Butt shouldn't be in the side but i cant see Hughton making the call to drop him even though it was evident Smith is a better option.

The Fish 10858
I'd go with a 4-4-2 with an inexperienced striker beside Carroll, rather than a 4-5-1 with a team that looks as if it's going for the draw. Shades of Allardyce I fear

manctoon 0
Yep. 4-4-2 for me as well...not fussed whether it's Ranger or Lovenkrands up front...there are arguments for both starting. By all means, bring Nolan on for an aerial threat if it's 0-0 with half an hour to go, but you'd think Plymouth will leave enough gaps at the back for two strikers to have a decent go at them. Ketsbaia 0
Lets not talk about 451 as if it's the norm. Hughton has had that forced on him by virtue of the fact we had one, possibly two strikers. I'm certain he'll revert back to 442 tomorrow.
donaldstott 0
A home game against what, on paper at least, looks like an easy game is exactly what we need. Ranger did nothing to deserve to be dropped on Weds and I would like to see him start.

Ranger did nothing to deserve to be dropped on Weds and I would like to see him start. He only got a brief run out. If anything, Carroll was poor at retaining the ball and deserves to be dropped. I have faith in the boss regardless of the selection and formation though.

KingKev 0
Will be interesting to see how we'll cope with a team who probably will defend deep with 10 men behind the ball for the biggest part of the 90 mins. Pace is the key, so Ranger should play. 2-0.

Pleased about this! Hughton actually resisting to play Butt and going for what i would think is a 4-4-2...Geremi on right, Barton on left, smith and nolan in the middle. Easily changable into a 4-3-3. At least Geremi might bring a few good crosses into the box! 3-
