Mary Travers, part of the legendary folk trio of Peter, Paul and Mary passed away on Wednesday at 72-years-old after losing her ongoing battle with leukemia.

Her bandmate, Peter Yarrow insisted that she handled her illness with bravery and generosity.

According to Yarrow, she expressed love to her family and friends "with great dignity and without restraint. It was, as Mary always was, honest and completely authentic. That's the way she sang, too; honestly and with complete authenticity."

Her other bandmate, Noel "Paul" Stookey added, "I am deadened and heartsick beyond words to consider a life without Mary Travers and honored beyond my wildest dreams to have shared her spirit and her career," said

The trio collected five Grammy Awards for hits like Leaving on a Jet Plane, Puff (The Magic Dragon), Blowin' in the Wind, If I Had a Hammer and Lemon Tree.

Travers lived out her life in Redding, Connecticut and leaves behind her husband, Ethan Robbins and daughters, Alicia and Erika.
