Dr Gloom 21924
You have to wonder if there's much point in arguing the point with anyone who thinks Alan Smith wasn't dogshit for us in Premier League. Come on Alex , You can do better than this. are you saying smith wasn't total garbage for us in the premier league? i'm struggling to think of one decent game smith had for us before we were relegated. he was a liability for us in the top flight, especially when played in midfield. good to see he's found his level mind. Someone can check the stats but didnt he only play 3 or 4 games for us last season ffs. Bearing in mind his injuries, the distraction at the club, his lack of games and his change in role, i think everyone is being unfair on the lad. Has he not reinvented himself into a David Batty. I also love the way all those who moan about some of us having blind optimism about our promotion chances are the very ones who have blind optimism about how well Jonas is going to do........ smith has been absolute crap up for us up until this season. i'm not defending jonas either btw Checked the stats and he played 4 games for us last season, 2 as a sub. why ignore his games prior to last season? Only because I cant really recall his one other season In Big Sams team. Cant remember his position, what he was aked to do etc etc Cant even remember if he started out as a striker for us. (i do have a shit memory so someone more qualified than me can comment on his season before his injury. In parky talk.....He has emerged from his cocoon into a beautiful butterfly. Virtually admitting you don't know what you're talking about there.

donaldstott 0
I don't think that Smith has ever had a full pre-season or a proper run of games in a set position since he joined the club. Under Big Sam he played right wing for a while, I do remember him being gash when he played central midfield, but I get the impression that he's playing deeper now. Looks a good player and I would certainly not take the captaincy off him, though I reckon that looks likely as Butt's certain to play while he's suspended. Dr Gloom 21924
smith has played centre mid, right mid and up front. he's looked very poor up until this season and still hasn't scored a goal for us. that said, on this season's evidence he is good enough at this level. wykikitoon 20146
Im also liking Smiths attitude, but to be fair his attitude hasnt really changed has it? Hes putting in the same effort as last time? Smith did a job at Man Utd before his injury so why couldnt he replicate it the last couple of seasons? He just needs some confidence. The performance from our Midfield especially Smith is one if not the reason why were top.
Guest alex
It's not confidence imo. His legs have gone to an extent which was why he never looked the same player. He's now playing just in front of the back four in a league that's nowehere near the standard of the PL on the evidence so far (look how shit the 3 who went down were and look where they are not). It's staring you in the face that he's found his level.

The game doesn't pass him by as much in this division and he has grown into the leadership role now i think partly because alot of the big time, big egos have jumped ship. On that note a thumbs up for Danny Simpson so far - his attitude is fuckin brilliant and he is always the first to be celebrating when we score - nice to see

Was thinking this yesterday, we seem too good for the Championship, but not good enough for the Premier League, not sure what the answer to that is without his fatness putting his hands in his pocket. Think that was written in The Times too. Imo, its to do with a widening gulf between the two leagues. Thats just a theory though.
dbsweeney 0
From todays paper "I just thought I had to foul him – he was going to score," Smith said. "It was a yellow card I had to take it for the team. Fuck yeah!
