NJS 4446
At WMBA and Reading, we let the opposition in for a clear one on one in the opening 10 games, but the attacking calibre in this division is such that you can get away with it. I was thinking during the Leicester game how true the cliche about your mistakes being punished in the top flight is - I'm hoping the confidence brought by getting away with it and keeping clean sheets will actually reduce the mistakes - for example I think Collocini only made that one mistake at the end which is low for him. It could have cost us the points but didn't and that's what gives me hope.

As well as we've played, and we certainly have and the clean sheets are impressive, nearly every game we have dropped one clanger that in the prem would probably be punished, and thats the difference, to be a top defence in this league you can get away with a bit. That's not to take away from the lads at the back though who've been excellent by and large.
manctoon 0
That's the thing for me, were more scared of imploding than anything this division has to offer. I agree, but that's only because or squad is so thin. I have no doubs that our strongest XI can cope with the next few games, but it worries me a little that we've only got two strikers and, when both of them don't play, we only have one shot on target in an entire game. If you took todays performance, as an example, you would think half of the premier league teams would have knocked three past us just by taking advantage of defensive lapses and that is the difference. snakehips 0
The coming three weeks will be a key part of the season, I think. If our season is going to be tested by anything, it's two games in a week for a few weeks. The fixture list has been kind though: Blackpool - promoted, beatable Plymouth - relegation zone, beatable Ipswich - struggling, beatable QPR - bottom home, beatable Peterborough - struggling, beatable. We should, on paper, win all those, but it's whether our squad will cope with the demand. But aren't these teams playing just as often as we will be? But my opinion is that, out of six games, we've only comprehensively deserved to win one and the other five have just been a case of the Championship opposition being shite. So it's not us being good, and until I see more evidence of us being good, I won't believe talk of promotion.

I'm not having a go at Acca, and I admire his optimism, but I really do fear that we don't have the depth to cope with this league 3 or 4 months from now. I'd LOVE to be proved wrong. We also have (arguably) a better standard of player against most of these sides. Really, the main problem will be WBA and Boro. Getting away with a draw away to West Brom was a great result--but we MUST win at home. But our games against Boro are the most important. Both come a long way into the season (at home in December, away to them in March), when the depth of the squad may be sorely tested.

What does this all mean? Maybe my fears about depth are mislaid a little. We have 30 while the average for the others listed is 26.7. So, really, we're all in the same boat together. We also have (arguably) a better standard of player against most of these sides. Really, the main problem will be WBA and Boro. Getting away with a draw away to West Brom was a great result--but we MUST win at home. But our games against Boro are the most important. Both come a long way into the season (at home in December, away to them in March), when the depth of the squad may be sorely tested. said this last week. to be sure of going up, 90 points will be needed - just cannot see that not being achieved to those lads earlier in the thread describing me as ''kid'' thankyou, as when you're nearing 50, even misplaced and eroneous commnents are welcome Which is why I said you had the mental age of a 10 year old, the other day Oh, and you're still younger than me - KID
TheMoog 0
Experience and drive will play out to be a big factor, as others have said it's nice while we're trundling along at the top and winning like we are but a few injuries could be all the difference. I always used to have blind optimism but over the last few years it's been knocked out of me by the club, I can't help feeling that something will go pear-shaped sooner or later. Hope the good times last though obviously.
