Craig 6700
On the occasion of its last meeting held on 27 August 2009, the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) was called to pass a decision in a contractual dispute opposing the French club Lens to the French player Gael Kakuta and the English club Chelsea. The French club had lodged a claim with FIFA seeking compensation for breach of contract from the player and requesting also sporting sanctions to be imposed on the player and the English club for breach of contract and inducement to breach of contract respectively. The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach. As a result the player was condemned to pay compensation in the amount of EUR 780,000, for which the club, Chelsea, are jointly and severally liable, and sporting sanctions were imposed on both the player and Chelsea in accordance with art. 17 par. 3 and 4 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches has been imposed on Kakuta. Chelsea are banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision. Furthermore, the club, Chelsea, have to pay Lens training compensation in the amount of EUR 130,000. Giraffidae 0
“In July 2005 Italian club Roma were banned from signing players for one year over the controversial signing of defender Philippe Mexes from French club Auxerre. However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport later ruled that FIFA call a halt the ban at the end of the winter transfer window.” not necessarily written in stone then. Damn. Guest Hova
They're not a British club though. Can't believe Madrid haven't been done. See this is what the Chelsea fans are saying but from what I understand, all Real Madrid were doing was publically declaring an interest in a player and forcing teams to agree to sell them their players, where in this case, Lens have not agreed to sell or release the player and he's come anyway. From what i understand.

ewerk 31237
What about Man U when they signed Berbatov. He wasn't still in contract Apparently this fella just upped it and left without permission so hes getting fined 650k and a 4month ban as well So how did Chelsea manage to register him then? So it's not for tapping up? Is it for fielding an unregistered player? How did players get registered if contracts weren't agreed with the sellers? Is it not the FA/FIFA that have fucked up when that happens? Genuine questions btw
NJS 4416
It won't stand up to appeal but it's amusing in the meantime. It's about time somebody was done for effectively doing what they all do - Man U with Hargreaves comes to mind - you can't tell me they hadn't discussed contracts with at least his agent before he "decided" to leave Bayern - see also Saha. NJS 4416
Wasn't our aquisition of N'Zogbia equally questionable? And Jonas for that matter.....? Guttierez certainly was iffy from a "conspiracy" pov - actually finding the rule which they thought gave him a free then using it smacks of pushing it. Of course the incompetent twats failed anyway.
