ChezGiven 0
The reason why was they worked their arses off in the first half to contain us and lacked the fitness to stifle our play int he second. I think this will happen a lot to us at home this season. Teams are well up for it and run around like blue arsed flys for an hour before being completely wankered. What has been most encouraging for me is that we have looked organised, motivated and committed as a side, meaning we are capable of dealing with the intensity and then upping our game to score. Hughton gets the credit for that.
Papa Lazaru 0
We bossed the second half when Ranger came more into the game. For those shots on target, ours had more quality in the build up and were clearer chances (edit: apart from the Howard header and the free kick, which wasnt that good anyway). For those off target, theirs were scooped into row Z, Geremi's and Barton's were fizzing shots that had the keeper beaten. Dont why people want to play down that second half, we were far far better than them and from the Leicester forums, their fans completely agree. The reason why was they worked their arses off in the first half to contain us and lacked the fitness to stifle our play int he second. Thats about what i thought, far from a great performance but you'd think we'd beaten by a shite team or something. When we played some football we were far better and aside from the goal, we should have had a pen and Nolan (twice) and somebody else wasted great chances with underhit shots, but the fact remains we created about 5 very good chances and at the other end Harper made 2 good saves and the rest of their shots were high and wide. We lacked a finisher, that's clear, but people saying we didnt create anything are forgetting the chances we had and i'll happilly take 1-0 wins as long as the points are on the board. I'm as worried as everyone else about the size of our squad and what will happen when we have an injury crisis, but we did our job last night against a decent hard working championship side, we scored 1 and created several other chances, hardly the disaster some people seem to see it as. David Kelly 1265
I think the goal gave us a big confidence boost last night. Up until then they looked much more likely to score than us and we looked like we were frightened that with the missing players we couldn't cope. Once we scored we were a different team bossing the midfield and providing Ranger with some half decent amunition for him to come into his own. I also think Simpson deserves a bit of credit for his performance. He's clearly never going to be a centre half but he rarely looked at all troubled there last night. More than good enough for most of this league. Actually thought Ryan Taylor looked decent last night as well at RB. For a change. Hopefully his goal has given him a bit of confidence. Hughton gets the credit for that. For me too. The transformation from the gutless performances towards the end of last season is creditworthy. Its one of the things we needed in this division, some fight and spirit to battle for everything against teams fired up and looking to get one over on us. They were all expecting us to be a bunch of tarts who didn't give a shit and they could bully us out of it, but they can't and then the quality we still have left is being shown. ChezGiven 0
Simpson kept it simple, with a couple of clearances straight into touch when under some pressure. Not as good as Enrique (who was laughably better than N'Guennes or whatever he was called down the right) but good decision-making. Also agreed about Ryan Taylor, didnt look like a startled deer for once.

I thought we were the anxious ones when 4 minutes went up on the board. I'm happy with the result, but a relegated Premier league club keeping 10 men behind the ball for long spells against a promoted league 1 team was not what I'd hope for. I wasn't as happy as others seem to be with Ranger overall either. Not his fault like, but i thought he was supposed to be a fast, fit teenager that would run for days and had a great finish on him. I thought he'd be terrorising their defence with his pace, getting into the box himself rather than holding the ball up and supplying others their long range efforts. This was probably Enriques worst (well, least good) performance this season and it was still good, plus he was still streets ahead of his opponent, he is one of the most important players to our chances this season for me. Simpson did well for a kid who's a fullback, like you say he was no nonsense and didn't take any chances which is the way to go out of position like that. And Taylor does look, contrary to what i thought at the end of last season, that he could do a job at this level, and he can to a degree cover RM and RB which we need with the lack of numbers here. Of course we'll still be struggling at RB since we know Ryan Taylor isn't a great defender. As for Enrique, he looks like a 16 year old playing U13s or something. Very true You do expect Enrique soon to just start pushing the other kids out the way or really take the piss because he's so much better than them and knows it! Made apparent by the home fans screaming for the whistle in injury time. Against Leicester ffs! I'm happy enough with the result, less happy with the performance, and still worried about the immediate and long-term future, which is what the OP was about. Those subs were quite brave of Hughton as they put us under pressure at the end but they were so lacking in cutting edge and quality, dont think it was a real problem. We couldnt retain it once Donaldsona and Vukic were on.
Craig 6700
This kid is a mackem without a doubt. If you check the IP it will be one of the mackem area post codes i.e. NE30something SR or DH. I think anyone from NE1-NE29. Fine, but the other postcodes questions need answering as far as I'm concerned. Lads, I'm definitely not a 'proper' fan... when I lived in the North East my post code was NE39... Fucking hell Stevie, you talk some shit. What the fuck does it matter which postal code boundary you're within? Dwight Yorke lived in those flats behind the Baltic - pretty certain they're within NE8. Does that mean his opinion on NUFC is more valid than those outside of your threashold?

Flair 0
Just came in from the match, really happy that I got to see Waghorn somewhere other than the training field at last, such a shame he couldn't score but he's just back from injury so he was never going to be on on fire. Glad he's feeling better. Steve Harper looked really impressive, think he should go to the world cup.

accadacca 0
chuck as much crap as you want at me, but when March comes around when we are promoted, I want an apology from all the unbelievers on here - that is if they have the bottle to apologise - but I won't hold my breath Hopefully we will get promoted (there's a loooooooooong way to go though). But if we do get promoted this season, how do you think we'll do in the Premiership next season with this side? With us back in the prem, there will be a lot more money around - we won't have the same side so its a daft question really
