Jimbo 175
BBC iPlayer comes to Sony PS3 Sony’s been busy. As well as keeping us on our toes for the past millennia (or what’s felt like it) as we waited for the official announcement of the PS3 Slim, it’s also gone and signed up some of the world’s biggest players for some Playstation Network video goodness. Firstly, the BBC iPlayer – previously only available via the lengthy process of going through the PS3’s internet browser – will soon be available as a direct widget through the PSN for free. It’s big news for the recently shrunk console, as the iPlayer has already gone down an absolute storm on the Wii, popularity never having been one of the service’s problems. The next announcement is that Sony’s signed up a raft of big movie studios such as 20th Century Fox and Paramount to get a PSN movie rental and download service up and running. It’s expected that users will be able to rent movies on a shortterm download similar to Apple’s iTunes Movie set up. Sony Computer Entertainment president and chief executive Andrew House says of the deals: "This is no longer just for hardcore gamers, but for everyone. We believe that everyone enjoys entertainment differently and should have the choice as to what entertainment they consume and exactly how they consume it. PlayStation is the gateway to that entertainment."

Ayatollah Hermione 13869
Hey, that's great. Now, if they announce some decent exclusives, I might actually consider buying one. I'm not going to buy it because I can watch the News at 10 on it.

Tom 14011
I just downloaded this last night as part of the new software update. (Which for the record looks very smart). It plays BBC programmes perfectly on a full television screen and there's no connection problems and the picture and sound quality isn't a million miles away from normal television. Good news as this also includes the football league show and the formula one!
