Christmas Tree 4919
Brian McNally --- The Mirror As the Newcastle takeover saga stumbles on the Toon Army provided the most tangible evidence yet of why the club is worth buying- even at £100 million. In the space of of just four days more than 80,000 fans have packed in to St. James' Park to watch a club demoralised by Mike Ashley's disastrous stewardship win Championship games against Reading and Sheffield Wednesday. The crowd of almost 44,000 for the Owls match was sensational by any standards. It dwarfed Chelsea's crowd for their opening Premier League fixture against Hull and was bigger than neighbours Sunderland's attendance for the visit of Carlo Ancelotti's side to the Stadium of Light three days later. England's third-best supported club last term have demonstrated in impressive numbers that there is money to be made on Tyneside for a clever investor. Fop 1
Only if they had the cash though. Someone else like Assley that thinks they have the cash but don't might be the end.

I think Ashley had the cash, he was just stupid enough to tie it all up in paying off the debt. What a fucking moron.
Papa Lazaru 0
Its true though that somebody who does have the cash can buy us now on the cheap (relatively so anyway) and if promoted the value of the club and its turnover shoot up. The problem is as time has gone on Ashley is making us less and less likely to be promoted as he strips all assets from the playing staff. If somebody had come in early paid the fat cunt what he wanted, got Shearer on board (or a proven manager) they could have been looking at a good investment. Now you're taking a big risk taking over when the window is near to closing and we have a tiny first team squad, with more still to be shifted by Ashley. TheMoog 0
I see there's £64m up for grabs on the Euromillions Lottery, if I won that much I'd seriously have to consider whether it'd be worth chucking £10m in to Moat's consortium just to get things moving. Ashley brought about the ruination of our club and could have redeemed things many times, he deserves any losses he makes for being such a stubborn, arrogant tit. As time's gone on it's looked more and more like he's done it all on purpose... but he hasn't, surely... has he?
Rob W 0
same over at the other Magpies - Notts County The Middle East mob have bought them for bugger all, they pay Sven & Co an incentivised contract, put in say £ 10 million for players (and when you think that NO player went for more than £500,000 in League 2 last year) - they go up a couple of divisions nad you sell for maybe ££ 80 million IF YOU HAD THE CASH £ 80 million for NUFC would look like a good deal - but you wouldn't want to splash on big names................... I think Ashley had the cash, he was just stupid enough to tie it all up in paying off the debt. What a fucking moron. In all honesty he probably still does if he was as committed to the club as someone like say Gibson is to theirs. But the combination of debt and his paper wealth decline seem to have done for him being prepared to spend anything on the club. Moat might well be much more committed, but it won't really matter if he doesn't have the cash for other reasons.
