Barney 0
2009/10:Pre-match quotes from the interim manager, Tuesday: On Sol Campbell: "Nothing is imminent with players coming in – we've not got anything lined up at this moment. "It's inevitable that a lot of names are mentioned because of the situation that the club is in. And of course I know Sol from my past connections and he is a good player but we haven't made a move for any individual at this point. "What we were able to do last week was bring in Danny Simpson, which was good timing for us because that was an area vacated by Habib Beye. We addressed that one because we had sold Habib and we needed a replacement. "At centre-half we are fortunate because Fabricio and Steven have been fit and they have been playing very well for us." On Steven Taylor: "He is very much still Newcastle's player and he is desperate to get on with things and do well for the team. "As far as I know, he is still at the club at the moment. Whether anything has happened that I don't know about is a different matter but I'm pretty sure he'll be playing on Wednesday. "Him asking to leave or leaving is not something that I'm aware of. I haven't been told by anyone that there has been a bid and I'm sure that I would be informed by someone if anything like that had happened. "Obviously, he's a good player and Steven has been playing well. He is obviously someone who is very important to the team." On Damien Duff: "I'm sad to see him go. As an individual, he's a smashing lad and he always gives his all. He's a very polite lad, a very hard working lad." On the club sale: "We are approaching the stage where some decisions have to be made and that could change the situation. "I've not been told anything new at this stage but we are getting there. I'm working very much on a day-to-day basis at the moment and will continue to run things until I'm told otherwise. "We will obviously have to take a look at things if we get injuries and it's inevitable that there is a certain amount of planning for that." On Joey Barton: "Joey will return to training today and we hope that he will be involved on Wednesday. It was one that he felt was worse than it actually turned out to be. I think he was concerned with having the foot injury last season but within half an hour it started to feel better and that has been confirmed by the medical staff. "It's good news for us because we want to steer clear of injuries and try to keep the team as settled as possible after Saturday's win. "There has been a spring in everybody's step since the win and now it is a case of keeping that going into Wednesday's game." They also say : That's now ten first team players who have exited SJP since the club's relegation: Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Ignacio Gonzalez, Claudio Cacapa, David Edgar, Peter Lovenkrands, Obafemi Martins, Habib Beye, Sebastien Bassong and now Duff. Owen, Viduka, Cacapa, Edgar and Lovenkrands all became free agents, although some compensation is due to NUFC from Burnley for Edgar due to his age. Gonzalez limped back to Valencia after his loan deal ended, while it's estimated that we've taken in around £24m (with more in staged payments) and slashed the wage bill considerably. It's claimed that United have now offered Lovenkrands a new contract, although this is yet to be confirmed by the club. The 29 year-old Dane is currently back at his home outside Glasgow and has been keeping fit with his former club Rangers, whose training ground is nearby. Craig 6700
Hope he's kept on tbh. Entirely hopeless as a manager but as a coach I think he's doing a good job. Also taken the mantle when no-one else clearly would - he's earned his place for when things are not so shitty...
Kitman 2207
He plainly has no clue what's going on and will probably be the last to be told if anything happens with player or club sales. Good on him for putting up with a very difficult situation and getting on with it, we'd be stuffed without him at the moment.
TheMoog 0
Ashley visited the club's training ground by helicopter, but it remains unclear whether it will turn out to be a farewell visit to the players or the first of many as the proprietor of a Championship club. Caretaker manager Chris Hughton was uncertain even after speaking to him. "He [Ashley] obviously spoke with Derek Llambias and really in effect it was to say he wasn't going to be here at the game tomorrow," he said. Also, this makes me sad... "As far as I know, he is still at the club at the moment. Whether anything has happened that I don't know about is a different matter but I'm pretty sure he'll be playing on Wednesday. Our interim manager. MAN-A-GER. Doesn't even know for sure if Saylor is still part of the club. Edited August 19, 2009 by Cid_MCDP

Happy Face 29
I feel very sorry for Chris Hughton. Why? He's livin' the dream, baby ! He's on a coach's rate for doing a managers job. People in Sports Direct are used to it like. If I recall correctly staff are expected to do overtime for free aren't theyy? It's cunt features money saving technique. The Fish 11063
He's certainly earned the respect of the players and the right to stay to the end of the season at least. Even if Shearer comes in and appoints a Dowie type right-hand-man, he should still be kept around. The lads seem to have found some stability and fire, I'd put that down to Hughton and Calderwood.
