Places do deals specifically for backpackers and it relates to where you're going obviously. Seeing as there's nowhere on there that is considered a dangerous it shouldn't be too costly. Shop around though and always check the small print to make sure what is covered and how much you have to pay yourself, etc. if anything goes wrong. May have been Could have been Cape Town actually as the baggage was checked straight through from Cape Town via Jo'Burg to Gatwick but I've since heard that it was most likely Jo'Burg. In my case it was only my camera and they didn't bother to dig out the battery charger.
