Its also quite amusing how normally well balanced people seem to turn to jibbering wrecks when a mic is put in-front of them.

Not particularly meaning that Colin bloke btw, more the others.

One guy said "I dont want to repeat whats been said", and then started his next few sentences by saying, "to repeat what was said earlier........". :(

I was going to pop my head into Shearers bar to have a quick listen to R5L's show before the supporters club talk-in with John Anderson started in the Strawberry, I walked in and was heading up the stairs when I was headed off by a club official who asked if I had a ticket, I was then told it was by invitation only and the invites were dished out by the BBC, I then wished them well, (ahem, :nufc: ) and went over the road to hear some great tales by Ando, one of them inevitably involved Gazza, The players were in an airport when Gazza, who had been dropping one pences behind strangers then shouting at them suddenly notices Jimmy White the snooker player, he then tells Ando and the lads excitedly, "Here! look! it's Jimmy White!", he then shouts at the top of his voice, "Hoo! Jimmy! Jimmy White! howman! Jimmy!!!" White eventually turns round to see this smiling young lad, (Gazza) bend down to take a shot with an imaginary snooker cue and shout out, .........."180!" :(

Where were you sat/stood?

And more fucking importantly where's me beer? :(

I was sitting to Andersons right, near one of the doors, there was a family of, (to be quite honest) fuck-wits babbling all the way through, luckily I could hear Anderson no bother over the mic, but it irritated me at the time.

Just listening to the NUFC special now on the iPlayer.

Last night at the Strawberry was a great night (even if I am biased). The atmosphere was bang on. I'll admit that when I heard the BBC were having their talk-in on the same night, across the road, I did wonder if we'd only get a small crowd. But the place was packed (admitedly its not the biggest pub, but even so). People just seemed into it, and I think we've found that to be the case wherever we've gone. I like the balance of the serious stuff, combined with the NUSC stuff and then you have the craic and the funny stories off John Anderson or John Gibson. Of course there's still the need to have the full-on serious stuff.

and on that note, we have a full-on serious meeting at the Irish Club next Thursday night. This is a MEMBERS ONLY meeting, HOWEVER, you can join on the night, at the discount (Roadshow rate) £8/£3 (concessions). (The discount is because we save on postage).

I think Toms use of the word "serious" made it seem something it probably isnt.

Its a members meeting, discuss whats going on, whats happened so far, where we're at with the plan etc.

More importantly, hear how the members are feeling, what your thoughts are and how we should progress.

I would say that for those who cant make it, if you have any concerns, thoughts or ideas then bung them to the query@nusc.org.uk or help@nusc.org.uk along with your membership number and name and we'll make sure they're looked at in time for the meeting.

Tom, what's the agenda for next weeks "serious" meeting.

Well, there's the update on the supporters club and the conversion to the trust. There's a bit to tell about that, because we've got to do an official launch. There's letting members know what it entails now that we're a trust - what we can/can't do. People probably want to know what the score is regarding elections, because we set the club up last September and early on said, there will be elections in June. We have mentioned why they haven't happened, but no doubt there'll be people wanting to know why.

Basically (if you're interested), because we went down the Supporters Trust route and as things got more serious and they decided to go with our proposals (rather than a couple of rival proposals) they said drew up a timeline for us. Because it wasn't going to go through until July they advised us not to go with the June elections. There timeline went with us officially becoming a Trust in July (which has happened), having an official launch (which is something else we need to discuss with members) in September. They said to take a few months to allow the trust to 'bed in' and hold elections probably in January, which they will assist us with organising - there's certain criteria they have to meet, to be recognised by Supporters Direct.

A lot of it will be asking members what they want, because we can say we've done this and that, we've got an idea about x, y, and z - what do you think? That's all well and good, but it is only part of it. The other half is finding out what ideas, suggestions are out there amongst the membership.

Yeah, sorry. When I said 'serious', I meant there's not going to be any funny Gazza or Billy Whitehurst in Bermuda stories from Ando or John Gibson.

Or quizzes, football cards etc

Might try and get along. Still think you need to get members on board for free.

Think elections should happen sooner rather than later and that some rule is put in place (i think like a plc) where elected leaders can only do so long without stepping down. Noone currently involved should be allowed to stand otherwise it will turn into a cheap working mans club committee.

I hear all the reasons why elections have not yet taken place but you lot need to keep at the back of your mind that "power" is a hard thing to put aside. (think blair said that).

New faces , new ideas and all.

Personally, I would have like to have seen a proper agenda put out a few weeks ago stating what was to be discussed with some format to it. Free for alls never really work.

AAAAHHHHHH, Thats better :(

Have to say I disagree that part, to force those that have worked to get it to this stage out not because they arent doing a good job or that there are better people out there would be stupidity at its highest level. Its like saying that your current MP cannot stand, that every general election we would have to field a new Prime Minister because the last one had done his stint.

If better people exist and are voted in then thats great but to use a new broom clean sweep logic would throw the SC into chaos. Nobody would know anyone else, we'd start each campaign with a new set of agendas, new way of looking at things and would jump period to period with no stability. Also, what would happen if there werent enough candidates to form a new committee? do you disband? do you force others to stand even though they werent 100% up for it? or do you say to those that you were about to kick out that they can stay even though they're not wanted? how does that fit in with motivating people to use their own time and money?

As for the date of the elections, we're now following the advice of SD and their timeline, that said, if the members got together and decided they werent happy with the current setup and it had to be changed asap then something would have to happen.

Its not about power or some "cheap working mans committee" its about stability, purpose and the best way forward. Thats not saying the current committee should exist as it is after the elections but in an ideal world the members will re-elect a core handful along with new faces to ensure the best foot forward.

I was basically getting at the scenario you have summed up in the last sentence.

For a trust or club of this nature to be run best it needs to not only BE democratic, but must force itself to be democratic. Rotation must be established so that one person for whatever reason does not hold onto power, no matter how good they are at a job.

Obama will be gone after 2 terms for good reason whether he is the best ever president.

The plc format i think means that one director has to step down each year to allow rotation to take place.

It is also worth pointing out that "the membership" is not going to come together to suggest new candidates or vote. Most will be apathetic about it. This is why it is vital that a very clear rotation system is put in place now, otherwise cronyville will creep in and you will have the working mans club / golf club scenario.

The likes of two terms is fine however a term shouldnt be one year, it should be 2,3 or 4.

The lads that would be looking to go for the positions havent been in them a year yet and havent really been allowed to push forward and follow everything through, to force their removal after the work thats been put in after only a year would be a bad move. Like I say, if democratically beaten in a poll then thats fine.

Also, as in any organisation you move people up, what you're proposing is kick everyone out and start afresh, what if one of the normal committee members wanted to go for Chairman, that would be logical rather than someone new whos not been involved at all.

I disagree there.

If someone is doing a good job and the majority are happy then time and energy can be spent on the right things, not just who's going to be elected next/jockeying for position.

I disagree totally on the old faces hindering statement. Yes you need new blood but existing experience is just as vital. You mix it up and the result will be good. Stick with the same faces exactly or start afresh and you won't get as good a result.

And emails are being issued to all members to notify them of the meeting.

And what's the issue with a members forum for the 2000. Can you not get these free to add onto a website fairly easily.

There is no issue, it's coming soon
