Fucking hell that is disgraceful, his contract will be up next Summer won't it?

No. There's still 3 years left on it. Remember we extended just before loaning him out to Sporting Lisbon.

Just like the Hughes sale, there is absolutely no logic to this.

It's obvious Viana wasn't too happy here, but he came out earlier this summer saying he would fight for his place here trying to mend his bridges with us. Yes we have central midfielders already. But we are very short on creativity and while you may not like left-footed players shoved out to the left flank, it's usually better than putting right-footed players there.

We badly need money, we have a thin squad, thin on creativity, so we loan Viana to Celta Vigo! Argh!!

Why couldn't we just keep him unless we got an offer of 3-4M? Once again we're a charity in the transfer market. Viana and Robert on loan, Kluivert off for nothing, Bellamy off for 4M-odd. Disgraceful.

Obviously Souness sees N'Zogbia as a better option.

I'm still to be convinced about him, people rave about him but i've not seen much to be honest to think he's going to be quality. Still very young obviously though.

I thought there was no chance of him going out on loan again! Suppose this is the no chance of us signing Moore though!

We are being taken for mugs! they have seen enough of him to know what sort of player he is, if they were going to buy him surely they would cough up the cash now!!

Who wants a bet? in 12 months Hugo will be back in Newcastle, Celta will not be able to "afford" him and we will loan him to Porto!!

Makes total sense, if you ask me.

What's the point in paying his wages, if we've got no intention of playing him? Freddy's been holding out for a transfer. This loan deal is the last option, after nobody wanted to pay out for him.

We've been suckered into paying over the odds for someone with hardly any professional experience, on the basis of performances against under-21 opposition, which included world-beaters such as Jonathan Greening and David Prutton. His slow-pace and physically unimposing style is completely incompatible with the English game which doesn't give him the luxuries of time and space which he requires.

Quibbling over transfer fees makes no sense if the alternative is forking out millions in wages to inactive players.

Hugo is hardly going to attract clubs being stuck playing at Kingston Park is he?

We've lost another player for nothing. Look at our squad.

We've cleared a ton in wages, why would we need to offload Viana for the sake of the wagebill?

We need to keep the wage bill as low as possible to maximise profits and ensure Freddy gets a large dividend payment.

Every time we get close to having any sort of depth to the squad, Freddy sees it as money wasted that he could have.

It's reported in Marca today. He has gone on loan to Celta Vigo for a year.

Absolute disgrace this is.

Hmm, I think they won't be happy in Stuttgart after according to reports in the local press their offer to buy Viana was rejected...

Would be interesting to know what the fee is if Celta want to buy him...

From nufc.com

Having failed to appear as expected for United's friendly match against Hartlepool on Friday night, it's now being reported from various sources that Hugo Viana is set for a move to Spanish side Celta Vigo.

In recent days the 22 year-old midfielder has been linked with a transfer to German side Stuttgart, as well as another return to Sporting Lisbon - the club we bought him from and loaned him back to last season.

However a one-season loan deal with an option to purchase the player (under contract to us until 2008) is now been reported - although this remains only a proposal from Vigo at this stage, so we understand.

Based in the Galicia region of Northern Spain, Vigo are neighbours of our Intertoto opponents Deportivo La Coruna - that rivalry being re-ignited this season when the two sides meet again, following Celta's return to the top flight after a one season absence.

I agree especially as wages affect profitability and ultimately reflect the amount of dividend for the shareholders. Well done the Fat Controller, certainly in the interest of the shareholders. At least the size of the squad remains the same .... ..Moore in and Viana out.

Didn't we stop Sporting having him on loan for another season becasue we said it was a sale or he cam back here due to his contract being up in 12 months time??

£8.5m for a player we've used very little for two seasons, loaned out for the next two seasons and then obviously going to be let go on a free next summer is an absolute disgrace!
