Guest Stevie
There's no right or wrong answer although some of you probably think there is. Who would you prefer as manager at this stage?

The Fish 11066
Shearer. I think going back to Keegan would be foolish. He's a great man in my eyes and certainly if there could be a role for him att he club I'd like for that to happen. But Shearer has the opportunity to gain experience in a lower league against lesser opposition, he's got the chance of a new owner (hopefully) and with that, a fresh start. He could build his team, playing to his ethos. He's more in touch with the modern game imo and he'd (perversely) have less of a burden of expectation about his ability to manage us. Also he's the messiah and stuff.
Park Life 71
I have grave and unwieldy doubts about AS as a manager at this time. The circumstances need to be different for him to succeed IMO.

Happy Face 29
My instinct was to say Shearer, but then I realised, that was just because i'm sick of people taking the piss. It would be complete and utter lunacy for Keegan to come back a third time, whoever was in charge. It would all end in tears again, whether he walked or got sacked and we'd be a laughing stock again. But I voted for Keegan, because he's better than Shearer and who gives a fuck what a Mackem thinks.

But I reckon the circumstance will be sufficiently different if and when Shearer takes over. If we had an owner that wasn't a complete fuckwit, actually had a bit of cash to spend and didn't allow Dennis Wise to pick players over Keegan...... we'd also be in the Premiership again. Besty 4
Thing is though, Keegan is clearly a good manager, we we're doing well up until he left and under any other circumstances he still would've been here, and we would've still been a Premiership club. What about the following drab 1-0 win scraping win at home to Bolton and his last game, a 3-0 defeat at Arsenal? I wasn't convinced. Imo Keegan's love of football is not what it was, I'd prefer a fresh change be that Shearer or someone else. Can anyone name an example of a manager exceeding himself on returning to a club, especially after a gap of 12 years (I'm not going to count his last stint because it was impossible to judge imo)? I doubt it.

(0.9 points per game - 50% versus top half) (Liverpool, Chelsea, Everton, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Fulham, West Ham, Man Cityx2, Mackemsx2, West Brom, Wiganx2, Boro, Stoke, Portsmouth, Blackburn) Shearer got 5 points from 8 games. TheMoog 0
That's a hard one, there's pros and cons of each: Shearer - Pros: Probable long term manager, discipline, a level head. Cons: Unproven. Keegan - Pros: Total excitability, motivation, good with transfers. Cons: Temperamental. Jeez, what a choice! We'd get mocked stupid but I can't help thinking that even though I do want to see Shearer as manager at some point I couldn't possibly turn down the chance to have that excitement Keegan brings in again, I've never truly loved being a Newcastle fan as much as when the Keegler's in charge.
