I know loads don't like him, but he is still the most creative AND passionate player at the club. I think he will redeem himself within the first six games of the season. Thats my hope anyway. (He could still explode again). But apart from him I struggle to see any vocal leaders on the pitch. I just cant see Smith playing and i always prefer it when the captain is in the middle and in a postion to communicate with all the players. Even if he is not the captain, he will be the organiser on the field regardless. Suppose Hughton knows that if he makes him captain, Shearer will kick him up and down the training field if he gets in. Alonso 'done him' earlier on or one of our players and nothing came of it. So obviously he thought he would get him back. Still think that wasn't a sending off btw. Everyone seems to think he's nails for chinning a kid hardly out of school and a French tart but he's hardly Jimmy Schoular. I think he might get a fright. Should he stay.
