"Managing director Derek Llambias has always played down the bid from Profitable, but McMahon responded today when he told the Chronicle: “We have pulled out. How long can you keep hanging on?

“We have put a bid in (two weeks ago) and we have had no communication, no response – nothing.

“It really is poor form from Newcastle, but if that’s the way they want to run their business, good luck to them.”

Reports this morning suggesting the Profitable Group had never provided proof of funds were also batted away by McMahon.

He said: “That is completely inaccurate and it’s not right.” "

I don't think these guys ever made a bid (or a serious bid at least) or ever intended to, It's the same as last time round, they are simply after the publicity.

The supposed Profitable Group never had any interests in the club, and clearly used the media coverage of the takeover to promote there shabby business.

Laughing Stock

And if all of the bidding parties signed a non-disclosure agreement, as has been said, then they shouldn't have been talking about the bid in the media anyway.

The most likely scenario is that they did put a bid in which was below the asking price.

As we suspect the real asking price is 100m + debt, and the likely bid from anyone is likely to be 100m flat, then Ashley will have to lie about this unless he wants to admit that someone bid 100m for his shit-tip of a club and he turned that offer down. Most fans would be apoplectic if they thought he could have got rid for this price but decided to hold on to it.

Thats the most logical explanation from a business perspective. "Shysters playing PR" is mongishly simplistic as it ignores the very clear issue around the differences in club valuation between buyer and seller which are clearly at play.

IMO. As a disclaimer, i've got no desire to see a what would essentially be a hedge fund take us over, i.e. a conglomerate of anonymous financial backers. I am more interested in understanding the 'offer / valuation' dynamic. This announcement certainly backs up those who wish to see this group as just publicity hungry though tbf. My experience of business and marketing however says that is the wrong way to look at this. As JawD said, the truth is probably somewhere in between.

The Bid isn't made to Ashley, it isn't made to Llambias, its made to Seymour Price, if that bid is accepted they would have been given access to the companies records

If Profitable group heard nothing its because their bid was below the min value and would in effect be ignored, they wouldn't be granted access to the books and as such it would be treated in the same way as a bid from myself would be

As to the asking price, I reckon its probably £100m, job done

Obviously the buyer then takes on all outstanding debts which would probably mean Ashleys loan would need to be immediately repaid, making the true cost around £200m upfront

You would have to be out your fucking mind to pay that for NUFC

Any serious interested party will gets access to the books after they show evidence of funds. Otherwise they only have publicly available accounts to base their valuation on.

And you reckon Ashley won't be involved in making decisions on bids? Seymour Pierce are handling the sale and weeding out the piss-takers but any serious bid will be decided on by Ashley.

No I dont. Ashley will have set a price, with a min limit, if that bid is met and proof of funds is given then those parties would be given access to the books, I very much doubt that Seymour price would be on the phone asking if it was ok if that party view the books

Once the proof was given and the books viewed, any additional bid would then be handed to Ashley, any questions they had would be fielded by Ashley or his team but there is no way in hell Ashley is sat at the end of a phone waiting to say "yay or nay" on a per bid basis

Who the fuck is going to make a bid without seeing the books?

Edit: Obviously there's one idiot who would...

Exactly. He expects someone to be as mentalist as him in their approach, AND to look like they won't embarrass him by getting us promoted.

is Joey Deacon still alive?

My point is that given the small number of bidders for the club and the value of the company relative to Ashley's wealth then I would expect him to be actively involved in the decision making process. I agree that the chances are the PG were a bunch of time-wasters who went in with a piss-taking bid but Ashley would have been informed of this.

He is, and by all accounts doing surprisingly well for himself!

Apparently he got into the retail trade, starting selling cheap sports wear, he's put on a little weight since his blue peter... hold on a minute! :)
