Always thought it had fabulous potential though. I'm a bit out of date on restaurants in the Toon these days, but if anyone wants a steer on where to go to eat in Manchester, I'm your man They serve Steer in Manchester? Where where where? Gaucho Grill Ooooh! We're booked in there a week on Saturday. Anyway, anyone got any suggestions for Newcastle. Never had a bad meal at either, never empty, always had good service and the latter are usually great with young kids if you take them. Just tell your lass to keep off the hubbly bubbly pipes next time Didn't go on the Friday, went to the Mighty Mussel instead (had a lush spicy sausage that blew my ears off). Reason was, I've got membership of the Gourmet Society, and couldn't use it (buy one get one free) on a friday or Saturday....so went on Tuesday gone instead. Enjoyed the food...but then they said they wouldn't take the gourmet society card, so i had to give them the exact change for the bill and complain to the Gourmet society about them. It seems like a load of shite to me, what with all the restrictions I don't think she's ever used it in the end. I think it's expired now. The main restriction is the weekend one, which is when I want to eat out somewhere nice 95% of the time. Otherwise for an evening match day it's easy to download BOGOFs for the likes of Zizzi, Pizza Express, or Strada, which does the job. I think it makes you feel awkward brandishing a Gourmet card at a posh restaurant as well, and somewhat spoils the experience. Plus if you tell them in advance they spit in your food - FACT. Which makes it doubley shite that when I mentioned it when booking on the Tuesday and they said "fine", afterwards, when i gave them it and asked for the bill, they said they don't do it at all any more.....even though they're still on the website. This usually means that the waitress smiled, exchanged pleasantries and brought the food without spilling it. Little things like coming out to meet me at my car and escorting us into the building under an umbrella in the pissing rain, things like that was what made the service here very good. This usually means that the waitress smiled, exchanged pleasantries and brought the food without spilling it. Back in the day when I was jonny big balls, a client put me up in the park lane hotel (scene setting) and then took us out to an equally impressive French restaurant which was called something like la garoche ??? On arriving we were each given our personal waiter who spent the whole meal standing behind each of us but about five feet away. We each got served individually at the same time and on getting up to go to the loo, the chair was pulled back, and the serviette exchanged for a new one. The meal finished with us being shown to the gentlemens smoking area where the biggest collection of cigars I've ever see. Were brought round. In the back corner was some very old Etonian Tory mp with a very young page 3 type all over him. I think the bill was about £600. That was "brilliant" service! Oh to be rich! Le Gavroche? While that's probably the poshest I've been in, my favourite is le mondes in Cardiff right in the town centre. Wish there was something like it up here. Wow! Le Gavroche is top notch. Christmas Tree 4729 Posted January 25, 2012 Share Posted January 25, 2012 Was listening to Richard Bacon on the radio yesterday and he was interviewing father and son from the Roux? family (Chefs, who have a new documentary starting on Sunday about how they changed the face of eating out in Britain). Any way, they were talking about this place in Scotland, up past Ullapool, that has a population of 600 yet has 3 Michelin starred restaurants in the village!
