Angelus71 4
MANCHESTER UNITED new boy Michael Owen is still costing Newcastle more than £50,000 a week. And the Magpies face paying a staggering £700,000-plus in wages to Owen and his fellow out-of-contract players Mark Viduka and Cacapa for the month of July. The trio all left Tyneside as free agents on June 30. And the Sunday Sun reported a fortnight ago how Newcastle were liable to continue paying them in full for a month if they failed to find new clubs. Owen, of course, clinched a shock move to Manchester United last weekend. But we can now reveal that the Magpies are still obliged throughout July to pay Owen the difference between his salary at St James’s Park and his new £50,000-a-week deal at Old Trafford. That means that as well as having paid him in full for the first few days of the month, Newcastle have to stump up £55,000 a week to Owen until the end of the month. While he remains without a club, Viduka stands to pick up around £320,000 before tax from United this month under the terms of his old £80,000-a-week contract. And the edge has been taken off Cacapa’s search for new employers by the £40,000 he is owed by Newcastle every week until July 31. Newcastle have been powerless to prevent a scenario which will infuriate fans already sickened by events – or lack of them – at St James’s. For the obligation to pay players for a month after they fall out of contract – and the difference between their old and new salaries – is part of regulations set out by Premier League, the Football League and the PFA. ................................................................................ .................. All this on top of all the shit we're going through. That fat c*nt of an owner should take the first bid and fuck off.

Kitman 2207
You have to laugh. Otherwise you'd cry. I hope they're taking notes on how not to structure contracts, in case we ever sign anyone ever again. They'll need a big notebook, mind.

ender4 0
Big whoop, we knew he was on contract til the end of July. ahhh, i thought it was till the end of June! in that case, it makes sense. as long as Newcastle doesn't have to pay anything after July. Fop 1
For the obligation to pay players for a month after they fall out of contract – and the difference between their old and new salaries – is part of regulations set out by Premier League, the Football League and the PFA. That's fair enough for a cleaner making minimum wage, or less (but of course they won't have that safeguard ) But for a player on £xx thousands a week it is just pitiful (about as pitiful as MP, Bankers and EU gravy trainers parachute payments).
