Taylor is slightly better in the air imo but Bassong is better on the ground.

Bassong's distribution is fairly pony like!!

Most CD's distribution is lame unless we get into the 10m and above bracket. Bass tends to tackle better and rarely lets peeps go past him. Taylor often seems to be racing to cover areas where he should have been in the first place.

I agree, Taylor is the 'Geordie Dabizas'.

I'm comfortable with the ball at my feet, it's the passing to a team mate that both I and Monsieur Bassong struggle with.

Taylor and Bassong are both good young central defender, both prone to making errors but have potential nontheless. They had no cover from a truly abysmal midfield last season either.

In my opinion, Taylor could never be a replacement for Terry no matter how much he improves but at a stretch he could reach a standard similar to Carragher if he has the right training and players around him.

I've found a lot of comfort sitting on the ball.

not just last season, the complete lack of a midfield that can hold the ball has put unneccesary pressure on our defence and keeper for a while now and it contributes to our "defensive problems" that they have so much more to do than most other teams, man for man we have a decent first choice defence, certainly a prem standard one IMO but they can't be expected to shut out opposing sides when they are being attacked constantly every game

Certainly doesn't help when your defensive shield is a balding ginger OAP trundling about trying to catch the ball up

The same Bassong who has a habit of getting caught out of position and getting red carded to make amends as last man? Hes the same age as Taylor too isnt he?

The same Bassong who is a far better player :icon_lol:

:icon_lol: Early days still. Half this board had Faye and Cacapa down as the next Maldini. Hes had a good season but theres a long way for him to go, he can get caught out of position as his 2 red cards showed and he was the worst man on the pitch at Sunderland earlier in the season. And as for Johnnys remark about not having as much experience as Taylor, he played 78 games for Metz! Hes hardly straight out of the academy. In fact theres about 5 career first team games between them so it a pretty pertinent comparison to make.

I wouldnt blame taylor for leaving if he reads some of the rubbish on here. He was one of a handful that actually gave a shit last season, he had his best season in a black and white shirt, hes only going to get better yet hes a cunt cos he points his finger or kisses his badge

I think some people are so desperate to be proved right they would rather it was at the expense of the team. Shearer explicitly said he wants to keep him as he feels hes part of a really good back 4

I did say experience in this league like.

Guest Stevie

David Terrier (or Bedlington as he was known as in the dressing room) played 200 games in the French League.

Wasn't it Taylor who blatantly handballed a shot off the line and then mimed that a sniper had shot him? I think it was against Villa a few seasons ago. Maybe that's why he's allegedly replacing Terry, as both are divers. I have to say, Taylor wouldn't be the 1st name I'd think of to replace 'honest' John.
